There's many reasons to like a Comic/Card Shop downtown near the bus station but that does not excuse the abrasive nature of the staff and poor business practices. Simple questions like, "how much is that comic behind the counter" get a roundabout response like, "it's pretty subjective" that feels like they're trying to swindle me as a customer. It basically means they don't have to have price tags and can make up any price they want. If this is a pawnshop then that's fine, but it's masquerading as a WPN Game Store for Wizards products. The other Springfield store has a clear sign of their buy-prices and is a diametrically opposite policy as Castles': when asked, "could I get some quotes on the price me you'd pay for these cards?" I was first given the "oh this will just sit in the case for a year like these other expeditions, and these others it just depends.." Huh? Just because you suck at running a shop and don't have other outlets for your inventory like Amazon or Ebay, doesn't mean you can treat buying subjectively. We've seen this before in Springfield: giving a pack for a Voice of Resurgence because the kid who just opened it doesn't know what it's worth-is the worst kind of business policy possible: subjective buying. It's very possible that it's the best way to buy in the short term for shady backstreet deals but in the longrun, in a technological age, your actions stay with you when you're a shop. I hope it's clear from this tl:dr go here if you have to but don't go hoping you'll find honest dealers of cards or comics. If you can stick to Addictive Behaviors in Eugene and Mystical Mayhem down the street from here in Springfield, (did I actually...
Read more-Went in for back issue comics and everything was overpriced. I managed a comic shop for 6 years in another state and the woman behind the counter saying "typical back issues are $3-5, that's how back issues work" is just a straight up lie. -Having no prices on the back issues and them having to look up the comic book prices is also wild. I only had about 15 books and it took about 10 minutes for her to look up the value which, again, was over priced for back issues. If I had a short box of comics to buy, how long would it take to price? This also means, if a big gets hot they can price it as whatever they want. Which is fine, that's how some things work, but not overpricing everything. -Not having a real itemized receipt was also worrisome as they can over charge on current issues. I bought two current issues and I have no clue if I paid cover price. Overall the experience was weird and I do not suggest going...
Read moreThey keep improving since they first opened. The quality of the games they keep in stock is very good. The staff is helpful. Used to be pretty cramped, but they have remodeled slightly and it's more open now. Prices are standard, but you're supporting independent local business.
The main downside is the store size, which affects selection. They do as much with it as they can. If you live in Springfield and they have your game in stock, buy it here! (They also offer standard order-ins.)
Also looks to be a nice little hangout for CCGs, RPing, and maybe wargaming, though I don't participate. And there's an occasional groups of amateur designers beta testing board games, so...
