I am giving this only three stars. I am impressed with the Gillioz. I'm very impressed with the performers and performances they have at the theater. The theater has been restored beautifully and is a very nice place to see. My complaint is I think they are being less than honest on their website about seating in the balcony. They claim that taller people might be more comfortable in Orchestra seating below. And that is quite true. However what they don't say is that there are seats in the balcony that it is impossible for anyone of any height to sit. Most notable would be the front row of the balcony which is classified as row a. I am 6ft 2in tall and found upon trying to take my seat in the front row that my feet couldn't even hit the floor because my knees could not get below the edge of the ledge in front of me. I was with other people who aren't quite as tall. And all of them were very uncomfortable too. At the last performance by the time the second set came around only two people were left in that row because no one could stand to sit there. The other seats in the balcony are also rather close spaced. But they are at least tolerable for the time you're going to be there. If you are over 6 feet tall the balcony is probably not the best place for you to be. If you are over 6ft 2in I think you will find the balcony impossible to sit at for an entire performance. Just about everyone should avoid the front row of the balcony. I can understand them not wanting to say that tall people should not sit in the balcony because of ticket sales. But in reality they probably should say that. If I had not been able to find another empty seat I guess I would have had to leave the venue without seeing the...
Read moreWent to see Jewel here. Beautiful theater. People are very friendly, acoustics are wonderful. Really enjoy the up close and personal aspect of the theater. As far as handicap accessibility goes, the bathrooms are horrendous. I was in a wheelchair and access was really difficult. Access to the sink was pretty limited for me as well and when it's a packed venue like it was for the concert it just almost next to impossible to be able to use the hand dryer. Had to just wipe my hands on my jeans, no soap available to me. Getting in and out the doors were just really really hard if it wasn't for the graciousness of a few patrons opening doors for me I might have been stuck. Also only one way in or out for me with a ramp into the auditorium. Should have access for wheelchairs on all three entrances to the auditorium so you don't have to ask people to move. I realize this is an old theater and renovations have been done and there's limitations but those are just a couple of things that would make the theater much...
Read moreI attended the Bruce Hornsby concert on Saturday, September 24th and could not have been more disappointed. For the majority of the concert, the music was interrupted by ushers with bright flashlights, speaking in loud tones while escorting guests to their seats - some of them well over 30 minutes late. Because the concession stand was open, people filtered in and out over the two hour event, sloshing drinks and turning flashlights on to locate their seats. Because no one was there to discourage it, people were texting, videoing and using the flash on their phones to take multiple photos. Not to mention the fact that guests were fanning themselves because it was so uncomfortably warm. I'm a huge fan of the arts and was excited to attend my first concert at the Gillioz, but this will definitely be my last and I'll be certain to discourage all friends and family from attending as well. I'm sad that I was unable to enjoy Bruce Hornsby's music; wasting money and time on an event at...
