Book your free tour at Eventbrite. We enjoyed walking through the governors mansion on a Sunday afternoon. Our docent was amazing. She grew up here in Springfield and played in the house as a child and the young person. The mansion itself is very impressive. It is the largest governors mansion of the United States and the third oldest. There is a lot of history in here and some beautiful artwork and furnishings. I'm sure someone will sell you a book so you can see all that. There are no photographs or videos allowed by visitors. Your tour will be escorted by Capitol Police to make sure you follow the rules and don't touch anything. The home is gorgeous and the first lady has done an excellent job decorating. We really enjoyed this wonderful tour.

I had bought MK Pritzker's book on the renovation of this house. I am really glad I did. The tour guide was very friendly, but we had a limited tour. I realize there would be some areas off limits to the public. I was happy to see the rooms in person. Some of them are truly stunning. The decor was executed in a very thoughtful fashion, which makes the house special. It can make every Illinois resident proud of our state. My favorite part was seeing a portrait of Patrick Henry, who was technically the first governor because Illinois was a territory and part of Virginia. Definitely a worthwhile tour, which lasted about an hour.

Actually attended a Scottish Highland game across from the mansion in an open park like area. It was a great time, impressive athletes, and gave us chance to walk around downtown exploring some businesses and attending a farmer's market. Hope they keep that area open for other events and a return of those games.

A Glimpse into Illinois' History: The Governor's Mansion in Springfield**

The Governor's Mansion in Springfield, Illinois is a remarkable destination that beautifully showcases the state's rich history and architectural grandeur. As one of the oldest continuously occupied governor's residences in the United States, it holds immense historical significance. My visit to the mansion was an enlightening experience, offering a deeper understanding of Illinois' political heritage.

The mansion's exterior is an exquisite example of Georgian architectural style, while the interiors are adorned with period-appropriate furnishings and artwork that reflect the state's cultural evolution. The guided tour provided by the knowledgeable staff was informative and engaging, highlighting the mansion's historical events and notable residents.

What truly stood out during my visit was the impeccable preservation of the mansion and its surroundings. The lush gardens and meticulously maintained grounds added to the overall charm of the place. The mansion's commitment to preserving Illinois' history while welcoming visitors with warm hospitality is truly commendable.

Overall, the Governor's Mansion in Springfield is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, and the stories that have shaped Illinois. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the past while remaining an integral part of the state's...

So-so mansion, terrible tour guide

Visited this attraction with friends. Tour guide was terrible. John was his name. Made it very clear there were other tours going in the house at same time and he "could only do so much with a crowd". Rushed through the intro. Stated several times, we didn't have time to see this, or that....When we lagged a bit behind to look at artwork or whatever, he stated, "ok, I will say this one more time, I wait until everyone is in the room until I begin my speech". Save yourself John, we didn't want to hear what you were saying, we wanted to see the house and displays. When the tour headed up the stairs to see the bedrooms, we headed down the stairs and out the door. Couldn't get out fast enough. This attraction would be much better served as a self guided tour with experts mingling to answer questions or offer insights. Tour guides like John ruin...
