A Must-Visit for History Buffs and Weapon Enthusiasts The Springfield Armory National Historic Site is an absolute gem for anyone interested in American history and military artifacts. From the moment you step onto the grounds, you're transported back in time to the height of the Industrial Revolution, when Springfield was a major center for firearms manufacturing. The highlight of the museum is undoubtedly the collection of weapons. It's truly awe-inspiring to see such a vast array of firearms from different eras, from muskets used in the Revolutionary War to cutting-edge modern weapons. The exhibits are well-curated and informative, providing fascinating insights into the evolution of weaponry and its impact on history. But the Springfield Armory is more than just guns. The historic buildings themselves are worth a visit, with their grand architecture and impressive displays of machinery used in the manufacturing process. There are also exhibits on the role of the armory in American society and culture, which I found particularly interesting. I especially enjoyed the interactive exhibits, which allowed me to get a hands-on experience with some of the weapons. I even learned how to load a musket! The staff was also incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and they were happy to answer any questions I had. Overall, I highly recommend the Springfield Armory National Historic Site to anyone looking for a unique and educational experience. It's a great place to learn about American history, see some amazing weapons, and explore a fascinating piece of industrial heritage. Here are some additional tips for your visit: Allow plenty of time to explore the museum, as there's a lot to see and do. Wear comfortable shoes, as there's a lot of walking involved.

Both the elderly male and the young blond female rangers were proactively very friendly & inviting as soon as we set foot inside. This is quite rare and refreshing when staff genuinely enjoy what they do. The younger ranger gave a demo of the antique muskets/rifles and how they changed through the years - super awesome fun, fact-filled demo! The video footage was started for us as soon as we entered the premises. (We were a group of 7 people.) What a great historical account of the history of the armory and the rifles whether or not you're a gun enthusiast or not. You will not need more than 2 hrs in this place as it is not huge, but the knowledgeable and friendly staff is what makes this historic site 5 stars! The guns on display are well organized with push button videos at some stations. The short clips themselves are to the point and helpful. Small gift shop area - wish they were made in USA products, shirts were not that good quality. Overall fantastic place to visit. Thank you to both the rangers!

Free museum! Everyone should visit. When I was there they had a demonstration and the guy walked everyone out to the field and he fired blanks out of a Krag-Jørgensen rifle, a Norwegian designed rifle licensed to be built at Springfield Armory for the United States Army. It proved inferior to the Spanish Mausers during the Spanish American War and it was quickly replaced by the M1903 Springfield. The museum has firearms from the Native American wars, WWI, WWII (German and Allied), experimental firearms, Vietnam, and current day. The staff is very friendly. Despite me being young and looking out of place, Howie was a very nice man who shared his extensive knowledge with me and his experience in the military in the ‘80s. I noticed that there are absolutely no Japanese firearms. They have American, British, French, Russian, Italian, German… no Japanese. I think the reason is because Japanese firearms like from WWII are very, very hard to come by, but I’m not an expert.
