The Bressmer — Attraction in Springfield

Upon check in I found 2 raccoons in a closet off of the laundry room. This was a 3rd floor property. How did that happen? The property owner could not find a local pest control company to take care of it so we could not stay. They put us in another property they own that was right next door. This was not a good or even swap as the property we left was 3 bedrooms and the new property was only 2 bedrooms. One of us had to sleep on an air mattress. Also the new property was very musty smelling everywhere and the humidity in the house was very high. I felt wet the entire time we were there. I appreciate that the owner worked with us to get new accommodations, but they didn't even offer to reduce the price. I had to ask for compensation.

Edit: if the replacement property had been as nice as the original property and if I didn't have to ask for compensation, my review would have been higher. You should have offered to reduce the price, I should not have to ask for it. Yes, I wanted to stay because I had no other options except maybe to find 2-3 hotel rooms if I could have even found any. If you had wanted a good review from me, which seems to be your goal, you could have offered a full refund on the original place and a free stay at the alternate location or greatly reduced the price. Please note my 5 star rating...

this home was perfectly located in the downtown area of Springfield. Easy to enter the home with the door lock code. house was exceptionally clean

this home has a great balance of the old and the new with all of the details of the 170 year old home in tact. along with bathrooms and kitchen that are modernized.

Kitchen was well equipped for an overnight stay .There is a half bath downstairs for easy access, there were two bedrooms with king-size beds, upstairs that slept very well. The living room furniture is set up like an old fashion sitting room that was very comfortable. The home is located iis in a safe neighborhood.

Plenty of restaurants to choose . LaFiesta Grande was just a short driving distance away and was a joy to be there. Great service great food. The Cozey dog Home of the original pronto pup is part of the route 66 destination. They are closed on Sundays

Lincoln house is about a half a mile away, and his tomb is approximately a 10 drive from the home.. both are free to the public.

Host was easy to contact and had great communication

If we ever return to Springfield Illinois again, I will have this home on my list...

We (my husband, myself and our 4 kids ages 8 - 16) just returned from a 5 night stay at the Bressmer, and had a fantastic stay! The building itself is a beautiful house on the historic register, and has been very recently updated so that it is both historic and has all the modern day conveniences of a brand new property. The owners include large quantities of paper products, dish and laundry soaps, garbage bags and even coffee and carmels! (our kids loved that last item) Anyone who has stayed in a rental knows how inconvenient it is to have to run to the store to buy those supplies so it was so great to not have to worry about the basics. The house is walking distance (less than a mile) to most of the popular Springfield sites - Lincoln Museum, the Capitol, etc., and we always felt very safe walking around. There's a great local brewery down the street we enjoyed a couple nights, and also a really cute and delicious bakery/coffee shop a block away. The price was also super reasonable, about the price of a night at a hotel. We would love to stay here again and highly recommend...
