Read moreFirst I’d like to say… I’ll update this review once the treating child and parents are back home from the hospital. For now this review is based off a mother/grandparent watching the other littles while parent are at the ER with one child. My daughter & son in-law took their child (18 months old) to a local hospital where they were unable to treat my Grandbaby. Take the baby back to the original treating hospital which is how they ended up here at this hospital. I call my daughter after a couple of hrs and they were just placed in a room in the ER. Ok so I call a few hrs later and they’ve done an ultrasound on the baby’s tummy call it cellulitis, say he has an infection and want to discharge the child. My daughter says she’s not comfortable with them releasing them when the baby is in so much pain and he now has a large lump on the belly that grew as they were sitting in the ER waiting room. The dr that visited them barely touched the baby but did a lot of hovering. I asked what about the Lab Work, what did the lab work show? My daughter informed me that all these hours they’ve been sitting in the ER & backroom… NO LABS were taken at all. I then said so how can they determine infection without drawing blood for lab work and don’t have a source of what’s causing the infection? Could the baby have sepsis, a torn intestine, leakage from a surgery that was performed when the baby was born? My daughter was scared for her child and felt dismissed by the doctors and the discharge paperwork was brought to the room without finding or giving answers! She refused to be discharged and the discharging nurse tells her “well I’m not sure your insurance will cover the costs”, WHAT!? This hospital performed my grandsons initial surgery, maybe they did something wrong during the surgery? But to say that to an already worried parent who’s child is crying in pain at 18months old and the nurse is concerned with insurance coverage! I was so upset I called the hospital myself asked to speak to the Charge Nurse, well she was the one who answered the phone and said “I am the charge nurse”, I go on express my concerns and she just says “the child is being admitted in and is assigned a room, okay” wasn’t exactly happy with the dismissive tone and the okay but at least I know that my Grandbaby is in a monitored environment with a quick response if he continues to decline due to pain...
Read moreI want to start by thanking the pre and post op nurses that cared for my daughter and made a seemingly scary procedure seem less scary. She and I are eternally grateful to you and your level of care. That is the reason for the two stars. I wish I could say that we had a great experience all around but unfortunately that is not the case.
Came to the doctor with concerns of an umbilical hernia for my daughter with two protrusions just above the belly button. This was all documented by the NP + confirmed by the surgeon the day of surgery. Fast forward to surgery day, we meet with the surgeon for the first time, show him the areas of concern.. He validates the concerns as hernias, confirms the locations, and explains that he’s not sure if what he’s looking at is an umbilical hernia or an epigastric hernia given the location. He proceeds to explain the process for correcting both, and assured me that he would know for certain once he was able to operate what type of hernia they were, and that he would be able to repair them regardless. We proceeded with the surgery.
A little over a week later when the dressing fell off we were shocked to see no visible change in the appearance of her belly. The two lumps were still very much there and looked exactly the same as before. This enabled me to call the hospital and request an earlier post op appointment. Upon further examination, the surgeon confirmed what I already knew: he did, in fact, not even address the two hernias we came there for, but claims that he found one that was in the belly button, repaired it, and called it a day. When I asked him why he didn’t bother addressing the two that we talked about in the consultation, he said it was because the incision he made didn’t allow him to see them?! When confronted with my concern the most he could say for himself was that in addition to “yeah well she’s just going to have to have another surgery”. I asked him why he didn’t mark her or use a camera while operating and he said with this simple of a surgery you don’t need to do those things. Well apparently you do??
When I voiced concerns of having the same physician do the second operation, the nurses tone toward me completely shifted as if I was crazy for not wanting him operate...
