I’ve been bringing my two dogs to this vet center for over five years, and I want to start by saying that Dr. Brown has always provided truly thoughtful, attentive care. I’ve really appreciated her over the years, and we felt confident in the treatment our pets were receiving while under her care.
Unfortunately, since Dr. Brown went on maternity leave, we’ve experienced ongoing issues that have made it difficult—and frankly, stressful—to get timely and appropriate care for both of our dogs.
One of my dogs is being monitored for liver concerns, and I was advised she needed a liver biopsy. I first called the office on May 19 to clarify whether a biopsy was the procedure needed and where to take her. I was told someone would get back to me. I waited, but never received a follow-up.
On June 2, I called again. That’s when I was finally told that yes, a liver biopsy was necessary—but they still weren’t sure where I could take her and said they’d have to check with the doctor. Again, no one got back to me.
I followed up again on June 4, and was told it would probably be Veterinary Specialty Services. Still, no referral was sent.
On June 9, I called again and specifically requested that the referral be sent to Veterinary Specialty Services. Then, on June 16—the day before my dog was scheduled for a dental cleaning—I called Veterinary Specialty Services myself to check. They confirmed that no referral had ever been sent.
On June 17, while my dog was under anesthesia for her dental cleaning, I got a call asking if I wanted to do a needle aspirate on her liver—despite the fact that I had already made multiple requests for a full biopsy referral. At this point, weeks had passed without any meaningful communication or follow-through from the clinic.
I came in to pick her up and brought up the situation again. I asked for a phone call when the referral was finally sent. Instead, I received a passive-aggressive text later that day—no call, no apology, that Dr. Courtney was sending the referral while I was speaking to the tech.
On top of all this, my other dog recently fell down the stairs and began limping. She needed x-rays and medication, and again, we ran into more issues—long delays in getting prescriptions filled, confusing communication from staff, and wait times of over an hour for a 20-minute appointment. We’ve also had a very difficult time getting clear communication about how things are being coded for insurance.
I understand transitions happen when a primary vet is on leave, but the breakdown in communication, follow-through, and basic coordination over the past few months has made caring for both of my dogs so much more difficult and stressful than it needed to be.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve internal communication and accountability. Dr. Brown is a wonderful vet, and I would love to feel good about bringing my dogs back when she returns—but right now, I can’t say I trust the quality of care or attention this clinic is providing in...
Read moreI absolutely love the Saint Louis Vet Center, the staff and our vet Adam Durvis. I had a terrible and a very impersonal experience with the carol house and when I came to the STL vet center my puppy was extremely sick and I was incredibly distraught seeing my best friend in such pain. We never have to wait in line at our appointments and our first time there I was happy to see they take you to a private room right away. Mr. Durvis spent a huge amount of his time looking at my dog Northi, answering my one million questions, watching me cry like a baby and making sure he tested everything from fecal matter to radiology and X-rays that were sent to a specialist. After Northi was treated there he recovered incredibly fast and the staff and Adam Durvis contacted me immediately checking in on him the next morning. The STL vet center is incredibly cheap for the amount of work they do and the personal time they spend getting to know your pet and examining their wellness. Mr. Durvis probably spent almost a half hour with me on the phone after he checked in and he is always so kind when you have any concerns about your pet or curiosity about their services they offer. I’m so happy my dog has a vet he can see consistently every visit and Northi always leaves happy with a treat or a toy from the vet or the staff! This place is worth every dime and has incredibly affordable options for the quality of service you receive. Northi will be a patient for the rest of his doggy years here and I’ve never felt more...
Read moreDecent visit. Lived in the area for years. Always heard great things about this clinic. Figured this was a no brainer and so close to home too! Was in search of help with my a possible urgent feline UTI. Pros: Professional, straight-forward, Polite Cons: Charged nearly $150 to prolong the inevitable. Waited 24 hrs for results after my pet was already showing signs of straining and 7-9 more days for prescription diet to aide in treatment for awaiting diagnosis. Felt inclined to order prescription diet online per vet versus obtaining a prescription food card to immediately start food trial while at least awaiting urine results. By the time I received the prescription food, my cat was straining worse and non responsive and I was told via the clinic to go to Animal Emergency. The purpose in going here was to attempt to prevent severe symptoms to the point of an ER visit. ER visit, $1200. Had I known my babe was blocked, I was have went straight to the Animal Emergency. Prolonged the inevitable.
Response to Clinic review: I appreciate the clinic taking the time to respond to my review. The initial visit served its purpose. After everything that has transpired, I no longer have questions. I appreciate the offer for further explanation. Warmest...
