I grew up body surfing every summer on Moody Beach, ME. Since our family stopped going there over 10 years ago, I’ve been searching for an ideal location closer to Baltimore. I took about three years, trying every single beach from Delaware halfway up into New Jersey and Stone Harbor is absolutely the best! The parking lot by the tag office has a trailer with bathrooms where you can change and there’s an outdoor shower to rinse off afterward. The slope and angle of the sand on the beach going out into the water is perfect for body surfing. I also love the whole vibration. Read moreAugust 2025 Stone Harbor is hands down my favorite beach on the Jersey Shore. You can usually find parking and a prime spot on the beach as long as you get here before 10 AM on those gorgeous summer days, but 11 AM works on most weekdays if you’re not an early riser. I’ve rarely run into obnoxious people here, but you might see someone smoking or playing loud music later in the day, but it’s pretty uncommon.
What I really love is how clean the sand stays and having bathrooms right there by the parking lot, and you only need to walk a few blocks for lunch, ice cream, or some shopping.

Read moreThis is a large popular beach that’s full of exceptionally soft sand. I would say it’s quite popular but the crowd is generally respectful and not too crazy, at least when we were there.
Expert to have your beach pass checked if you sit on down and make a stand. If you’re waltzing around and moving they won’t check you.
The water can trend toward chilly so it’s hit and miss if people end up in the ocean or parked on the sand.
Well populated life guard stands and snack sheds mark the popular and swimmable areas.
