Had to leave our stay at this motel early due to a tropical storm. Absolutely no effort by the motel at any type of compensation for the remaining two nights/ two rooms we paid for and we’re not able to stay. No voucher, no refund, not even a partial refund. Not even a “ so sorry you have to leave” . Poor policy by a motel on the coast during hurricane season. Many people left the area when the storm came and local events were cancelled and stores boarded up. Motel is clean but rooms are small, very old and dated. Dangerous open stairs to third floor. No offer to help carry luggage up this dangerous staircase in windy weather. Hard to navigate outside walk way to the rooms due to chairs sitting outside the rooms and guests and cleaning staff sitting in them. Couldn’t roll my suitcase past their legs. Location is great, near town, stores, restaurants and beach. Pool looked nice. Had to park on the street which was a major concern with predicted flooding and storm surge, had to leave. Man at the desk was less than sympathetic and absolutely no offer of any type of compensation. Won’t return to a motel that took advantage during a tropical storm. Unbelievable. Poor management. Do not stay here if you have any concerns about climbing a narrow outdoor open staircase carrying luggage to the third...
Read moreThey do not like black/ethnic looking people or anyone under the age of 35. If you are young and remotely want to have a good time, do not stay here. If you want to relax and have a good time and not be bothered for no reason other than your mere presence, do not stay here. If you want to meet up with anyone for lunch, do not invite them to meet you at the Lark beforehand. They do not welcome anyone other than the actual guests staying in the room. You are not allowed to have any guests on the premises at any time even if they are clearly not sleeping in the actual room and have reservations/keys to the hotel next door, or maybe that was just us. I sure hope they do not treat all their "guests" this way. God forbid someone waits for you outside your door for 5 minutes, they ask them to leave. If you are white and in your 60's, stay here! they will appreciate your business and treat you fairly. If you DO wish to be discriminated and prematurely judged at the time of check-in based upon your age, stay here! Otherwise please do not waste your time or money especially on a...
Read moreWhile the condition and location were great, the location near the water proved a disadvantage. We arrived late on Thursday afternoon (9-21) with the intention of attending the Wine Festival on Saturday and leaving on Sunday. Thursday night after numerous calls from family, we intently watched the weather, Tropical storm Ophelia was due to hit with 50 mph winds, 5 inches of rain and a 5' storm surge on Friday night. The Festival was cancelled due to the impending storm so we, four senior women, wisely decided that we should leave. My issue is that we were not given any kind of refund or offer of a credit on future stays by the man at the desk. A little rain and wind would not have chased us away but a 5' storm surge would have destroyed my car and I feel that management should have been more understanding to our concern over the weather. We did not just leave on a whim but because of a very real threat...and driving 8 hours each way was not something I...
