I came here on August 2, 2018 for the $10/month membership and ended up walking out with the black card, big mistake. I was signed up by Markie Campell who told me I could downgrade with no fee if the black card was not for me. I also reviewed the contract and no where in the contract is there a mention of a fee if you downgrade, you pay a fee if you cancel the membership, so I took Markie's word for it because I believed Markie was being an honest employee of this Planet Fitness location. Markie advised me to decide on the downgrade before the annual membership fee. During the entire month of August, I tried to use the massage chairs as much as I could but found that I was not using them as often. There was also one night where after my workout I went to use the massage chair and there was a woman there sitting on one chair working on some papers she was filling out and her books, bag and other things were in the other massage chair (not the first time I have seen her do this). Another instance I went in to use the massage chair again, when I looked for the control to the tv it was missing because the front desk worker had it with him because he was watching a football game. This just made me realize I was paying for amenities that I was A. Never going to get to use B. Never use at all, so I decided to downgrade. I went to the gym on 9/25 to give my notice of downgrading before the annual fee and I spoke with a woman named Ruth Ortiz. She advised me I would have to pay $58.00 to cancel my black card. I explained to her what Markie had informed me of when I signed up and she explained to me that doing so I would still be canceling and would incur the fee. During this conversation, she was cordial and even though I pointed out to her the terms say nothing about a fee to downgrade, she insisted I would still have to pay to change my membership. I told Ruth I would continue my workout for the day and think about it. After a couple of minutes of working out I thought about it, and all it did was upset me that I felt I was lied to by Markie. I decided to cancel my membership. James was the employee who helped me cancel and he was very nice. I asked James if he could provide me with the owners information because I wanted to let the owner know that his employee's should be trained better and some other complaints about the gym amenities and some things I saw at the gym that I believed should be brought attention to. James told me he could call the manager for me and it turned out to be the same woman who I had just spoken to. This time she was very cold and rude to me. I explained to her that I just wanted to voice my complaints and concerns. I told her I felt lied to and that her employees should be trained better when it comes to situations like mine. I could not believe Ruth when she offered me no apologies for the way that I felt and she just walked away from me without saying anything or acknowledging anything I said to her. I felt very embarrassed that she had just walked away from me and you could tell James was even bothered by what his own manager had just done. I understand and complied with the fee to cancel, but what I do not understand is why Ruth Ortiz had to be so rude to me and she is the manager. The whole month I was a member, most of the employees were super friendly to me. The place was always clean and I really did not want to cancel my membership just downgrade. I will never come to this Planet Fitness again and if anyone is thinking about getting a membership here, please read your contract carefully and do not trust any of the employee's word. This is only my review and experience but I do suggest you read other reviews on this gym on google reviews and facebook as I am not the only one who has had an experience like this with General Manager Ruth Ortiz. My photo proof provides my cancelation copy notice and the names of the the people mentioned in this review written on the contract by request of mine for proof of a...
Read moreBeen going to this Location since July and I have to say the staff is very friendly. Never had a problem there and yes, they are always cleaning something so that's nice.
I have one tiny beef with planet fitness' philosophy, and that is calling themselves a "Judgment Free Zone"... Let's get real here, if you don't tolerate a certain type of tank top or someone who grunts to get a rep out, YOU'RE JUDGING and you're being a hypocrite. Thankfully, this location doesn't seem to conform to that ridiculous idea from what I've seen. I for one am a grunter. Not to be loud and noticeable, but because hard work is hard and IT HURTS. I want to see the person who came up with that philosophy get poked with a branding iron and stay quiet, because that's the pain you feel some times when getting reps out. Trust me, I don't misunderstand the intention behind the philosophy... There are legit people who try to draw attention to themselves by being obnoxiously loud, but find a way to say what's true, not hypocritical. I know this location is just conforming to Franchise code, so I can't strike them any stars for following it.
Another positive about this gym is they let you park your motorcycle in front on the sidewalk, which is great for those of us who ride and like to keep an eye on our bikes. Bike theft sucks and a gym parking lot is an easy way to say "I'll be here for long enough for you to take this."
Kenna, the free personal trainer, is super nice and will challenge and encourage you when you utilize her. They also have a spreadsheet available so you can analyze the crowded times and avoid them if your schedule allows.
One of the only flaws I see here, as mentioned by another reviewer, is that they don't have vending machines with protein or healthy pick me ups. I have to bring my own just in case I get into trouble physically. There are great tasting, horrible food alternatives just outside in the parking lot and I've had to use them because there was nothing on offer inside the gym.
Last thing I want to say, which is along the lines of the previous statement, is that I think they should ditch the candy bowl at the front counter. I am never tempted by it as I weened myself off of craving stuff like that long ago, but I think it might pose a serious issue with people who are already struggling to eat right and put those things aside. I know how easy it is to work hard and then rationalize that you "Deserve" something for all the hard work you did, but in my experience, I see people rewarding themselves beyond the work they did as a standard, and junk food is the number one way it happens. For all I know, that candy bowl and lack of vending machine stock might be protocol as well, but I gotta take a star off for it regardless. It's...
