Rollins Family Market — Attraction in Tempe

Ive lived nearby for several years now and this place is a lifesaver!! They also have the most random assortment of products so their selection is good for when you need something specific. I have come here many times needing one last minute item that i had forgotten during my regular grocery runs and this place always has it in stock. As others have mentioned, their prices are a little bit higher than the average grocery store chain, but this is a local family owned place so their supply chain might not be as cost effective as huge chains are. This is really standard among smaller family owned businesses and I love supporting my local retailers for what seems to be a marginal increase in price. Plus, all the goods here are still way cheaper than the whole foods down the street. Despite any language barriers, the cashiers and other workers here have always been incredibly nice to me. During the great yeast shortage of early 2020, I asked if they happened to have any and the cashier went into the back and found a box of yeast that they hadn't put on the shelves yet! She didnt have to do that for me and it really made my day. Cant wait...

The filtered water dispenser should NOT BE TRUSTED. On Nov 2, 2024 its purity was 369ppm. Tap water was 490ppm that day. These machines usually dispense 20 (new filter) to 120ppm (time to change the filter, especially if it gets to 160).

This was not an isolated incident. In Mar 2023 & Dec 2022 it was literally dispensing unfiltered tap water (465 & 535ppm respectively. That was the same as tap water on those days). It got better for awhile. But, this machine is clearly not serviced, they don't care. They assume nobody will know (I guess). I'm not wasting my time testing it anymore. Bad customer service. The prices are not clear so I didn't wish buy. So the cashier started questioning why I was there shopping for TWO HOURS then I didn't buy? AND that I did the same thing last time! He made 2 lies and 1 business violation in 1 statement. I was there shopping for less than 10 minutes, the other time I did buy some gums and I didn't what I was looking for, and he has no right to question me why I canceled the groceries. Though, I explained to him that their prices are extremely high, he was trying to escalate the issue. I expect this business will close if such horrible people keep...
