Quite frankly, my little sister doesn't understand why I write reviews and it annoys her when I take pictures of food, but she has demanded that I give this place 5 stars and exclaimed, "Look at the craftsmanship (of the pasty)...this is actually worth a photo!" Sooo, yeah Cornish Pastry Co is a 4.5 in my book, easily rounded up to a 5.
While I would probably never find and/or try this restaurant on my own, I was highly intrigued by the excellent ratings and sheer number of reviews, so my sister and I dropped in just after 11:00 for lunch. I think we made the rookie mistake of entering through the dark, candle-lit kitchen side (with tables along the wall) rather than the far door with the actual dining room, but sitting on either is fine. They even have a patio!
The staff was great, answering any questions we had about the menu and service was well-paced. Now...the FOOD! As a (mostly) vegetarian, I was pretty blown away by the options - I have to eat a lot of veggie burgers elsewhere - but this place has a whole vegan/vegetarian page of items, some of which include veggie chicken and beef. Forget what anyone else has said...nothing could be better than the Eggplant Parmesan pasty! ;) My sister also loved her Lamb and Mint pastie, saying it was "effing delicious" and that the mint was not overpowering. The pastry is not doughy like pizza crust, but rather flaky and crispy like a biscuit. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, as they were fresh and still a little crunchy.
Literally my only complaint about this place is that my meal was so good I kept trying to bite into it while it was still hot, burning my mouth multiple times. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm visiting my sis in Tempe, as I know she's about to jump on the Cornish Pastry Co regular train! She already has the "Pilgrim" pasty picked out as her next one to try. I bet she'll have worked through most of the menu by the time I see her again.
Definitely put this on your "must see" list of places to eat...
Read moreMy family and I came here to enjoy the popular Cornish pasty this past Friday night; however, the customer service from one specific gentleman was very rude and disrespectful.
My mother ordered dessert at the very beginning of the dinner but asked to have it served at the end. We were mid dinner when a server quickly walked by with two desserts and asked if they were ours—before we could respond he answered himself and said, “no? Okay”, then walked back inside. I asked my mother if that is what she ordered and she said she didn’t have a chance to turn around and look before he went back inside. Then a few minutes later another gentleman walks by with the same desserts. I called out to him and said I believe those were our desserts.
That’s when the first server came out like a child throwing a tantrum and said, “I even asked you if that was your desserts?!” (To include erratic arm movements) and went back inside before we could say anything once again.
It ruined the rest of the dinner for us since his actions were very much uncalled for. He should learn to communicate effectively to refrain from losing additional customers.
The food did taste good but we are big on customer service. So we personally would not recommend this place if you are looking to have a nice relaxing meal.
The server had shoulder length hair but placed into a bun and was servicing the...
Read moreI wasn't really hungry, but this place caught my eye -- I guess you could say I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame. I knew I had to stop in and see what it was all about.
First off, the ambience has an unmatched charm and warmth to it-- I felt welcome as soon as I walked in. My server was witty and genuine with a certain radiating spirit and thoughtfulness about them, and to top it off they had a very extensive knowledge of the menu -- you could tell they care deeply about their job and it shows.
Now to the important part, the pasty. So I know what your probably thinking -- what in the world is a pasty (well at least that's what I was thinking). I thought maybe it's just a Hot Pocket, but I decided to take the plunge and find out. And boy was I wrong, no plain ol' boring pizza or ham n cheese here, folks! There are so many flavors to choose from; it's so exciting knowing there's a new experience waiting for you just around the corner -- I'm drooling just thinking about it. Like a warm hug, the filling is wrapped up in a nice buttery, flaky crust, making it so comfortable and safe to eat.
My compliments to the chef -- I will most definitely be returning for more mouth watering pastys (but only on Mondays, Wednesdays,...
