UPDATE!: The manager/owner is a jerk (and that's me being nice) and blames me for the sweet peppers on the sandwich. Well, maybe if your tvs were at a reasonable level you could have heard me ask for "Mushrooms, Onions, & Jalapenos" on my husband's cheesesteak! He also said to my husband when he called that he was okayed to come back but me "not so much". My husband is epileptic and doesn't drive, so he asked for a sandwich from there with "mushrooms & onions, & check if they can do jalapenos" and I was more than happy to get it for him. He also said he checked his video/audio cam and I said I wanted the sweet peppers on it. This would have never happened because I know my husband HATES SWEET PEPPERS. My previous review was detailed, but kind. My husband and I are both disabled, but I can still drive so I do errands for my husband while he works out of our home. He couldn't come with me to order his own sandwich because he doesn't get off work till 5pm...this place closes at 4pm (not conducive to working adults). My husband is now livid that they would place all the blame on me for their eff-up. Honestly, I knew they would. I've read the other negative comments and this shop owner has zero customer service skills when it comes to negative criticism. DO NOT GO HERE. We were telling people to go here, but No...Don't. Go down the street to Philly's Bar & Grill. It's like a block and a half away and their Phillys are better and the customer service (even if you have a complaint--which I have never had) is amazing. Smiles everywhere and you can order ahead and pay when you get there! Oh, and THEIR hours are conducive to working adults...WIN-WIN Ladies and Gentlemen!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is a neighborhood eatery with very odd hours (hope you don't want a Philly Cheesesteak for dinner or on Sunday cus you aren't getting it). My first experience was ok, but I wasn't fond of the food. I got a cheesesteak and their wings with fries. I've had better cheesesteaks locally and the wings were supposed to have LA Hot Sauce and ranch drizzled on them and I didn't taste the hot sauce on the wings at all, but I did on the fries. Not much ranch on it, but whatever. My husband said his cheesesteak was good tho, so take the criticism of the two meals as you like. The atmosphere I gave 2-stars because they have TVs showing some sport or another (which is nice if you are eating in I guess) but they have them WAY TOO LOUD. My ears were ringing by the time I left and continued for about an hour. As I said, my husband liked the first trip, but the second he had a problem with. He wanted a Cheesesteak with Mushrooms, Onions, & Jalapenos with White American cheese. When I got it home it had Sweet Peppers on it and my husband hates sweet peppers (bell peppers). Since I specifically listed what he wanted on the cheesesteak, since he couldn't advance order it without a credit card (I wasn't at home and the card was with me) the stars for Service took a hit for making it wrong. *Yes it is too loud, their hours are not conducive to a working person, and they screwed up on my hubby's meal today, BUT the place seems clean and a lot of people do like them. So yes, I had a bad experience and I don't much like their food, but that doesn't mean you won't. This is one person's experience. I just wanted you to know what "could" happen...but you never know. Have a great...
Read moreThe woman who took our order seemed very kind, and the sandwich my partner had was good. The overall experience, however, was unsettling and we will therefore not be returning. While my family and I were sitting on the patio, a visibly down on his luck passerby asked to borrow a phone to call someone. I said sure, as I saw no harm in helping someone out. We like to show kindness to people whenever possible, and especially while our three year old is watching. While this person was using my phone, the owner (I assume he’s the owner, he had on a red hat and looked like the guy in the logo) came out and asked if this person was with us. I said he is using my phone and that we were all good (and we were). The owner then proceeded to address the person using my phone, and told him it’s not okay for him to sit on the patio if he isn’t eating because he was “taking up tables.” I think it’s important to note that we were the only people on the patio, so it seemed unnecessary for the owner to speak to this person so rudely. As the owner continued his rudeness, he and the person who had been using my phone began to argue right there in front of me, my partner, and our three year old. While I am in no way okay with how the person who used my phone acted toward the owner (there was profane language used), I can acknowledge the fact that he was acting and speaking defensively, and only after being prodded and treated poorly by the owner. The owner threatened to call the police (and actually did end up calling the police), so I gave the person a few dollars and he went on his way. To top off the stressful situation the owner, rather than ask if my family and I were alright etc, told us not to bring people like that to his restaurant. I told him we absolutely didn’t bring that person, but were simply letting him use a phone. He then told me that letting the person use my phone was irresponsible because “we know he’s trouble” and we have a child with us. I can’t help but feel that the entire ordeal was racially motivated, as he had no grounds for assuming that this person was trouble other than the color of his skin. My family and I love finding new local businesses to support, and if you do too I would highly recommend not wasting your time or money...
Read moreWithout a doubt the best Sandwich Shop in all of Phoenix!
I box multiple times a week with my trainer just a few miles away- I discovered this shop after just wanting to “grab a steak sandwich”. I ordered their Pastrami sandwich, and also a classic “Cheesesteak”- both were absolutely superb!
The pastrami is loaded up with absolutely decadent meat, and the sandwich is expertly crafted (including pickles, mustard, and Swiss cheese) As soon as you sit with the sandwich in front of you- you can tell this is about to be a wondrous experience. I have had Pastrami sandwiches all over the country and all of them have been an inch or a mile short of “perfect pastrami sandwich”... but not here: this is the Pastrami Sandwich you’ve been looking for. You absolutely will not be disappointed.
The cheesesteak we got is the one with peppers, onions, and provolone. If you’ve been to Philly or Jersey then you know what these sandwiches are supposed to be- and this one lives up to the name. Eating this sandwich feels like being transported 2,330 miles away and actually eating a cheesesteak in its home. Classic, delicious, familiar— simple— but all around exactly what you want when you order a cheesesteak sandwich. I haven’t found a better example in Phoenix... ever.
Jeff and his wife are absolutely wonderfully pleasant, too. That’s something that has become hard to find in today’s highly volatile and conflict-oriented society, but here you have an opportunity to meet and greet the face and family behind these wondrous sandwiches, and you can tell they’re filling the shop with love, care, and compassion. They are extremely friendly and will work diligently to make sure you’re satisfied with the experience (and the food).
I am very glad I stumbled upon this little shop- and I hope you get a chance to come down and try one of...
