On the Saturday evening of November 21, 2020, my wife and I decided to visit “Epic” theatre in Titusville, Florida. As we walked inside to an empty lobby, we could see local teenage possibly early twenty year old employees sitting at a table together but trying to quickly put on their masks.
As we looked through the options on their computer ticket service, one of these employees accosted us and demanded that we “wear a mask”, in an aggressive tone. I tried to explain to this employee that I had a medical limitation and I could not wear his mask.
The employee responded rudely and aggressively in a southern hick voice as he pointed out the door “ HEAD ON OUT”.
We could see that his management must have emboldened him to present such an unprofessional and ignorant face to potential customers.
It is not a requirement that from the State of Florida’s Governor ( Desantis) that the public wear masks, nor is it a mandate in Brevard county.
This theater management is trying to impose these mask requirements regardless of any medical limitations, even though they were not personally wearing them either when we came in. Nor were they “socially distancing” from each other.
Somehow this institution has come to believe that they have the right to make up their own laws like a independent Sovereign nation. No! They are sadly mistaken and ignorant.
Imagine if a business were to say “ You can pick pocket in here” or “beat people up” in here since this is a private business. NO ! The reality is that they are subject to the laws of the land, not their own laws.
No private business offering service to the public ( public accommodation) has the authority to deny entry or service based on your disability. In addition, they do not have the authority to violate our civil rights.
This hpocrisy and ignorance by Epic Theater employees does not suspend our civil rights or the constitution.
All the big box stores ( Sams Club, Walmart, Public) have been legally challenged by formal notice and in court on these issues and have since relaxed this experimental imposition of masks. This is why today when you go in, masks are not demanded as a prerequisite for entry.
Even a modest research effort can demonstrate that these masks do not protect you from a virus ( 20 nanometers) that easily passes through these cloth coverings.
The fact that the owners and management of “Epic” Theaters are willing to make such demands on the public in abject ignorance of the law and science speaks volumes about them. Sending out a rude and aggressive hick to chase away customers should alert everyone to seek other entertainment options.
I will never be back to visit this theater in the future. No doubt others have had similar experiences.
If they go out of business permanently, it will have happened by their their own hand.
Stand up America ! Vote with you feet ! We do not need to accept this...
Read moreAs far as the theater itself goes, it's a movie theater. There's rarely a wait and it's prices are equivalent to anyone else. However, the issue that I am reporting on is that of the staff. Recently (Saturday 10/15/22) I took my kids to see our monthly "horror flick". We had arrived to the theater significantly early, so we hung out. We had spoken to the ticket attendant twice. The first time was to enter the theater and we were told it wasn't cleaned yet; the second, was when we went into the theater. Neither one of those moments, was there an issue. The problem occurred, when I had walked my 8 year old son out to the bathroom and back again. Jack, the elderly gentleman, looked up and down at my son with a grimace and began to weigh in on how old he was and how he's not allowed to watch the movie as it was R-rated and it was "against the guidelines". I pointed out that there were four other minors in the theater, which were visibly younger and half the size of my son, and if he had the same vigor in communicating with their guardians. He dismissed me and continued to try and bar my son and humiliate him. It's 2022 but this was definitely a case of racism. My son is dark complected and visibly hispanic, which is what this was about. After humiliating me in front of other people, he told me , "well its your choice at this point" and allowed us to enter the theater before managers were called and it was escalated. I pointed out he was singling me out and that tickets were sold, as well as he had already spoken to me twice before. Immidately after this altercation, they had another staff member take his place. There was no apology to my son, there was no explanation given for this behavior. I had to sit my kid down, who had done nothing wrong, and explain racist behavior to him. I had to let him know that there was nothing he did wrong and that they had in fact earned to see this movie, and to enjoy it. He wanted to leave before it had started because he felt that he was in trouble or being punished. Let me tell you something, I am a veteran and I contribute to my community. I don't care how many places I have to post this, someone will read this and I hope the next time you run into "Jack" at epic theater, you're prepared to be treated on the basis of your appearance regardless...
Read moreWe have had nothing but problems with this theatre. Our first visit was to see the Garfield movie the Friday it came out. We purchased tickets for the 3D movie. There was something wrong with the projector, and only half of the movie was 3D. Staff was nice enough to give us tickets to return. We used our comp tickets on Monday, June 24, 2024. I took my son, who is autistic, to see inside out 2 in 3D. It was great up until about the last 30 minu I of the movie when it kept freezing. I informed staff, and nothing was done. My son wanted to use his bday money to play the arcade games. We spent a total of $11. We had the manager help us use the kiosk to buy a game card, as I wasn’t sure how to do it. The games weren’t dispensing tickets so I asked the manager if the tickets were added to the card, and he said yes, that the games are set up to give points to the game card instead of dispensing tickets. When it was time to trade points for prizes, the manager asked us for our tickets. I told him that he informed us just 5 minutes ago that th games no longer give tickets, but instead give points. He then told me that the system isn’t set up to exchange points for prizes and would only accept tickets for prizes. My son, who is autistic had a complete meltdown in the game area. And I was extremely upset. I told him that at no point in any of our interactions did he tell me my son couldn’t get a prize, and that he is the one who told me it wouldn’t give tickets, but then turned around and asked for our tickets. I asked for a refund, and he said he couldn’t refund kiosk purchases. He eventually gave my son 2 pieces of candy, because he was so upset. If you are going to offer arcade games and prizes, you need to make sure your system is set up before allowing guests to play and become disappointed at cash out time.
While the 2 pieces of candy were Nice, our movie was messed up, and nothing was done to rectify the situation. We have only visited the theater twice, and both times our movie has played incorrectly.
For being the only theatre in town, you have been nothing but a disappointment to us! I can say that at this point I would rather take the time to drive out of town to see a movie than come...
