January 2023, I had an oil to gas conversion done by Apple air. Installation was horrible. They came late, and there were about 4 guys, 2 looked and acted like teens. A 9 hR ordeal, so much banging, yelling, etc. So they’re done, I say ok, tech wants me to sign that the boiler was installed, I say I’d like to see it, we go to the basement, making it hard to see the front panel. I was told it had to be installed this way, I accepted their explanation. Looked like they cleaned the floor, they had the vacuum out, floor was wet, I assumed from cleaning, since they said they just finished cleaning the floors. Please note that the smell of oil permeated my house about 3 hrs into the job, so by this time, the smell was really strong in the basement (I had windows opened, in January). I asked about the smell in my house, tech says open all windows, let it air out for a few hours. So I say ok, they leave. The smell never went away. Next day, I went to the boiler room, looked like pools of water on the floor, touch it, it’s pools of oil. This room is unfinished and has asbestos floor tile, they came out cleaned up the oil, apologized. Next day the same areas were oily again. They came back, cleaned it again. Same thing kept happening. Tile needs to be removed, tech agrees said their contractor will come out and take care of it. Additionally, I realized they destroyed my dryer, I don’t know if they were standing on it or putting heavy tools, but it was completely damaged, the washer rattled when I put a load of clothes in, all the banging I heard was on my appliances. They covered my water lines with cement when trying to seal the vent. They couldn’t be so bothered as to go under the water line. They just globbed the cement right on them. Now let’s get to the heat. The smell coming out of the steam heat was pungent. I informed them of this immediately, they said give it a few days. Smell remained. They then put cleaner in the boiler, but I could tell the solution wasn’t going through the system, because it was green for weeks, and they just kept adding more cleaner. So I got the smell of the cleaner, the smell of the steam heat, and the overwhelming smell that just permeated my house, which was noticeable to anyone entering my home, causing countless headaches. I stopped using my heat and used space heaters to warm my home. That didn’t even stop the lingering smell in the house. From the beginning of all of this, I asked for Apple to check for gas leaks, because i was afraid there might be a leak. They came out and said there was no leak. I was told that if there was a leak, it would smell like rotten eggs. So I said ok, but wouldn’t it also smell like gas, his answer was no. At the end of March 2023, national grid came out to inspect the lines as I had gotten a permit for the conversion. As soon as the tech entered the main level of my home she smelled gas. She went down to the basement and after trying to find the source, she contacted a supervisor and he came out to my home. Upon coming to my house he immediately smelled gas and located the source. He stated that the main line wasn’t tightened after the conversion. There was an active gas leak. He sprayed the pipe and it started bubbling immediately. He was there for over an hour, he fixed the leak and told me to contact appleair and let them know what they did. I have called Apple air almost 100 times, I have spoken to customer service, a few managers, no one has helped. They have scheduled appointments with me and never showed. 2 of the people who came out to my house are no longer there. I have contacted better business, but Apple air hasn’t responded. I contacted consumer affairs who referred me to the town, since there was a permit for this job and they’re electricians/plumbers, so that is what I’m going to do. Read moreI had used Apple on a few jobs and was happy for the most part. That is until I called them about a customer in Amagansett. As usual they explained that there would be a diagnostic fee that would be applied to the service fee if service was needed. I agreed. I gave explicit instructions that I am the property manager for an elderly woman who owns the home and is very sick. She is not to be contacted. Everything goes through me. They agreed. They were supposed to go out on a Sunday to service the unit and then contact me to let me know what was the issue and get paid. I never heard from them. 2 days later I spoke with the homeowner, and to my surprise she said that they never went out on Sunday. That they were coming out today ( Tuesday). so I called their office to ask why I wasn't contacted and why they called my customer instead. All I got was an argument. Never an apology. When the mechanic went out there on Tuesday to diagnose the issue, he didn't call me, their office did. She wanted a payment for doing the diagnostic. I asked what was the issue, she said I'll tell you after you pay us first...... I said that's not how it works. I said ill pay you but you need to tell me what the diagnose is. She refused. She then claimed it was their policy. I told her that I've used their company several times before and this was never an issue. She just continued to argue with me. I asked her why her company ignored my request that only I be contacted and not the homeowner. I am the property manager in charge of the rental property. She said we don't do that. We only deal with the homeowner. I told her that when I used you in the past it wasn't an issue and why didn't you tell me this when I called you to go to this customers home and I explained that I was the property manager and that the homeowner was elderly and was not to be contacted and you said OKAY! But now its an issue? Not to mention that I still have no idea how they got the homeowners phone number. They've lied to me and then when called out for their incompetence they retaliated by refusing to give me the diagnoses and arguing with me non-stop. When I asked to speak with the manager, I immediately received the same treatment. They were rude, unprofessional and didn't care that I was a great repeat customer. They didn't care about losing my business at all. A simple apology for not showing up on Sunday knowing there were renters in the house suffering in the extreme heat and giving me the option to hire someone else who might come out immediately was apparently too much to ask for. They didn't call me, they called the homeowner and rescheduled with her so they didn't lose the job. Not thinking of the renters at all. I called another company on Tuesday and they went out to the house immediately and in minutes told me it was low on freon and he filled and sealed it for half the price that Apple wanted just to diagnose it. I will never use or recommend apple air ever again. Im sorry I ever used them. This is not how you should treat people. Because of apple airs selfishness and conscience decision to avoid contacting me, "the property manager" renters had to endure 2 more days of uncomfortable heat. Read moreWould love if I could actually provide a review of the services this company provides, but considering that they literally ghosted us multiple times, all I can comment on is their customer service which clearly is complete trash.
We have been having issues with our hot water and my husband made an appointment last week Tuesday. We of course were given a time slot with a wide range so we waited around all day until he finally came at 5pm (side note- I watched him drive his van down our one way street going the wrong way- he’s lucky he wasn’t in an accident, but that should have been our first clue of the intelligence to expect from this company). He looked at our boiler and said since it wasn’t straight forward and he didn’t know exactly what was wrong, someone else would have to come the next day. He then did a 20mins sales pitch on a 10k water filtration system which we politely declined because all we wanted was hot water. He told us that he scheduled someone to come out the next day, and they’ll call us with the time. We had to pay $135 for this.
The next day my husband calls around midday after not hearing from anyone to find out that no one was ever scheduled. They apologize and say everyone is booked for that day already so they schedule someone for the following day (Thursday). Thursday morning my husband calls to confirm and they say someone will be here between 12-4pm. Around 2-3pm we get a call that they’re very busy and no one can come, so we’re again rescheduled to today (over 1 week after the initial technician comes).
My husband confirms the appt yesterday and they say again someone will be here from 12-4pm. We wait around all day. At 4pm my husband calls and is told the technician is running late and will be there just before 5. At 530pm after still not hearing from the technician, I call and I’m told that they are going to have the technician call me to give me an ETA. At 545pm I still haven’t received a call and I call the company to cancel.
This was an unbelievably frustrating experience. And if we weren’t forced to pay $135 for the initial visit (we were told we had to pay service fee that day but the next visit we won’t have to pay the fee again), we would not have put up with this company for this long. Do NOT book them, I don’t understand how they have high reviews on Google— check out their reviews on yelp— they are much more aligned with my experience, and I’m sure they’re doing something shady with their Google reviews.
TL;DR:
Don’t book unless you love getting ghosted and taking cold showers. Also maybe this company should make sure their drivers understand...
