I have been going to savers for 9 years. I went yesterday to one of the other locations and was disgusted, by the bathroom situation in particular and it gives the wrong sentiment towards its customer base (poor, dirty, cheap, thieves), that store had no soap, no hand towels, and the floor made your skin crawl. It was the worst experience. I felt terrible for the workers actually!!! I wouldn't even want to work there, let alone shop there if the bathroom situation is like this.
I did not check the bathroom here, but what i can say is the store is new and clean.
I was informed about this location driving by one of the public buses with the grand opening ad on it. I thought I'd make a trip to see even though it's been open like 2 days so far?? I was blown away!!! It's spectacular, clean, everything new and fresh. The staff have been working diligently to make a strong first impression. It looks like a higher end environment. I felt respected as a customer. The lighting was beautiful, the shelves were bright, white, and clean, the glass counters were like a high-end jewelry place. The plates were showcased like a nice store would. The staff were not pushy (i was pushed /unnecessarily/ at a different location yesterday during my self checkout).
This new location shares a new message about thrift. We thrift for many reasons, because it's economical, it's more environmentally friendly, it supports our local communities, etcetcetc. The fact is thrift is growing and gaining momentum. More people are thrifting now than in the past and will continue. People are also becoming more informed about the benefits of thrift and choosing to thrift over the more conventional ways that dont exactly have our best interest and ethics in mind. This new store sets the foundation of respecting its customers no matter the reason why we thrift. Not just treating us subconsciously as (less than for how we spend our money)
A few years ago i visited the goodwill in NYC and that was also a very terrible experience. With a security guard watching me and checking my bag like I'm a criminal. I think i had to check my bag at the door, actually. I walked right out. It was awful. And that's the sentiment sometimes thrift stores have towards its customers. As mentioned above.
Im happy ive never been treated to that extent, on Long Island, and im even happier this new store has made an effort to respect its customers and change the narrative of what thrift means and what thrift can be going forward.
I even saw they had hand sanitizers going out the door, which is always a nice gesture.
The price was comparable to the other savers thrift stores.
I don't know how long things will be upkept , as yes of course a new store wants the very best impression, but so far i am impressed from the start with the whole experience. And would love to...
Read moreI love going to savors but the experience I just had here was absolutely disgusting and frustrating. I was there with my sister and two young nieces and it is already hard enough to watch two kids who are getting very distracted and frustrated while shopping so we are rushing to check out me and my sister have two separate orders and so I scan one thing and grab another thing I saw that it was my thing so I put it to the side the worker he comes over and pushes me out of the way and goes you forgot to scan something and I was like I know and starts grabbing stuff to scan for me so I grab it and said they are two separate transactions and then goes well what did you scan already and Iâm already flustered because both girls are crying and he wonât let us scan the stuff and then he just went you need to cover this to scan this like I didnât know. I scanned one thing and he came over and fully got in my space and I didnât know who he was at first. Maybe if you think someone is stealing let them scan more than one thing first before you get into others people space especially a family with little kids. Itâs not only insulting making a sense in-front of everyone but also just wild up the kids even more. I would have let it go but he was so beyond rude and pushy and absolutely unprofessional. I will never be going back to this savors because this isnât even the first time I have an problems with...
Read moreThis new location is very clean compared to the other locations but thatâs the only plus side honestly. Employees were nasty, items are overpriced and either broken or dirty. Savers used to be a great place to shop at, but after the pandemic and opening a number of new locations on the island, they have gotten more expensive and have not had much bargains like they used to. I think the managers are looking up things on eBay before they put it out to the floor - and that goes for every Savers here on LI! I will say the guys in the donation center gave me 2 coupons for my donations which is appreciated. I donate a lot here and overall give them a lot of Buisness not just with my shopping there but my donations that they mark up to line their pockets! And while the 20% off coupon is appreciated, I fell it should be a lot more considering theyâll be making money on the stuff I donated.
EDIT: The reason for the high prices are because Savers now has a processing facility that all donations go to. Donations will be priced at 40% of eBay prices - Or higher in some cases. They no longer price the donations at the store. They ship them off to the processing center where they are priced and sent out on trucks too all the savers on Long Island. Thatâs the reason for the inconsistency in pricing and why prices...
