⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Review for Umami Sushi & Bar in Centereach – The Sushi Spot That Never Disappoints!
Let me start by saying we made a huge mistake. Just last week, we tried another sushi place thinking we'd "mix it up," and it was an absolute disaster – stale fish, terrible service, and zero atmosphere. The entire meal we kept saying, "We should have just gone to Umami!" Well, lesson learned. We came back to Umami Sushi & Bar today, and it was like coming home to sushi paradise – reminding us exactly why this place is the undisputed king of all-you-can-eat sushi in Centereach!
All-You-Can-Eat Perfection – Why Go Anywhere Else? 🍣👑
After our horrible experience at that other place, walking into Umami felt like entering sushi heaven. Their one-price, endless feast is lightyears better than anywhere else. The menu is massive, with everything from ultra-fresh sashimi to creative specialty rolls, plus hot appetizers, noodles, and more – all included! Every single bite was fresh, flavorful, and made with care (unlike that last place where the fish tasted like it had been sitting out all day).
Our "never-again-failing-Umami" favorites: 🔥 Rainbow Roll – So fresh it practically melted in our mouths 🔥 Spicy Salmon Crispy Rice – The perfect crunch with a kick 🔥 Umami Bomb Roll – Literally EXPLODING with flavor (hence the name!) 🔥 Panko-Fried Oysters – Crispy outside, creamy inside – nowhere else does them this good
Service That Makes You Feel Like Royalty – Unlike That Other Place! ✨👑
Remember how I mentioned our awful service at the other spot? At Umami, the staff treats you like family. From the hostess who remembered us (even though it had been a few weeks!) to our server who patiently explained new menu items, the difference was night and day.
Even when the restaurant was packed (because of course it was – everyone knows this is the best spot!), our drinks stayed full, empty plates disappeared like magic, and the staff actually smiled (unlike that last place where we had to beg for water refills).
Kid-Friendly? More Like Kid-ADORED! 👨👩👦💖
After our stressful experience trying to keep our kids happy at that other restaurant, Umami felt like a parenting vacation. The space is huge and welcoming, with plenty of room for strollers. The staff brought out crayons without being asked and didn't bat an eye when our toddler decided to "decorate" his placemat with soy sauce. They even custom-made a simple cucumber roll for our picky eater – something that other place refused to do!
The Atmosphere? Vibrant, Clean, and Actually Enjoyable! 🍶✨
Unlike that dingy, depressing place we regrettably tried last week, Umami is bright, modern, and buzzing with happy energy. The sushi bar is spotless, the tables are well-spaced, and there's actual ambiance (not just fluorescent lights and sticky floors).
Final Verdict? We Learned Our Lesson – Never Cheating on Umami Again! 🍽️💘
✅ Flawless all-you-can-eat with ZERO quality compromises ✅ Service that actually cares about your experience ✅ Huge, diverse menu that puts other places to shame ✅ So kid-friendly it should win awards
We solemnly swear: From now on, it's Umami or bust. Why risk disappointment anywhere else when perfection is right here? If you love sushi (or even just like it a little), run – don't walk to Umami Sushi & Bar. Your taste buds (and your family) will thank you!

Read moreMy best friend and I been a frequent customer of Umami for at least the past year. We’ve recommended the restaurant to multiple people and make it a point to go at least once a month. While the service has never been the best, we kept coming for the food and relatively cheep prices. However after our most recent trip to Umami, we will never be returning nor will we be recommending the restaurant to any of our friends. We plan to do the exact opposite actually. Now please understand, we are not usually ones to complain, however our service and overall experience has turned us off from the location completely. Our night started off great, my best friend brought her boyfriend, and we were enjoying the night, talking, eating and encouraging him to try new things. The issue arose when the bill came. We usually don’t tip on card so we left the tip line blank, and closed our checkbooks to pay. Our waitress then came over, opened each of our check books and passive aggressively pointed to the tip line and told us “ you’re supposed to tip here, right here.” She then walked away without taking the checks with her. She then pulled another waitress aside from across the room and started pointing and laughing at us, as well as glaring at us across the room. All together the bill was well over $100 and we were very well planing on leaving a good cash tip, however after that experience we ended up leaving a much smaller tip and just wanted to get out of there as we felt extremely uncomfortable being stared down from across the room. A few minutes later another waiter came to collect our checks, to which the same two waitresses ran over to him, took the books from his hands and flipped through them, glaring at us as they realized there was nothing in there and angrily stomping away to check us out. We planned on leaving the tip on the table and as I said before, we originally were going to leave a very nice tip, but because of this rather childish behavior, we left a small tip. We then said something at the front desk about the behavior, to which we were practically rushed out the door. Because of this we decided we will no longer be frequenting customers of this place and will tell others to steer clear as well. Never in my life has a server made us feel so uncomfortable and bullied. And as if that wasn’t enough, all three of us woke up this morning with painful stomach aches and nausea. Very disappointed, will definitely never be...
Read moreGreat food and friendly staff. Went here with my whole family large group of over 10 people. Anyone who left a bad review here is a real pain in the butt type who like to criticize. Food came in a fair amount of time considering it’s sushi and takes time to prepare. Was really busy too and give them credit for bringing it all out nicely prepared and fresh. Give the people a chance everyone who left 1 star. There are other people in the restaurant and the world does not revolve around you. Every waiter was friendly and nice. Sashimi was really fresh and nicely cut plus you can order as much as you want. I started with one but then ordered 10 more. They refunded me for a plum wine because I didn’t like it and gave me a hot sake on the house. Large portions and great atmosphere. My 4 year old ate something spicy by accident and the waiter ran to get some water was back in like 5 seconds thanks. We ordered so much food over 90 selections. We ordered all different food in all random orders and everything came out as ordered. I seen some people complain about order of food coming out. It comes out in the order you select I wouldn’t expect an all you can eat to serve you in courses when everyone is ordering different things. If you want food in a particular order then order it in that order. I seen some 1 star reviews and instantly thought these people were well uptight uppity types. We were seated next to one group that kept on eyeballing my small kids like they didn’t want us there but they couldn’t dampen our time. We all had a great time and enjoyed the food. Ate until I was ready to explode. Cheesecake was good and a real surprise at an all you can eat considering the price of cheesecake. Will definitely come back and think all the people that left 1 star reviews should try and work there for a day and perform at that level and pace. Some of them are probably just racists so sad that people have nothing better to do then complain. I have been to other sushi places and was really wowed...
