Middle Country Public Library Centereach Building — Attraction in Town of Brookhaven

Very large collection, well maintained library with pleasant staff. They are extremely responsive to comments and suggestions. I have been satisfied every time I have made contact with them, and they have replied every time to a comment or suggestion I made. The hours are generous and the loan periods excellent with automatic renewal if no hold requests and no late fees. They also have the most recent titles available including Blu-ray DVDs. For those with young children, the library offers specific play areas including outdoors that always entertains my 6 year old. The indoor play area was recently updated and there is even a special corner that is periodically updated with different themes suitable for teaching children of a wide range of ages. Just wanted to write a positive review. I was looking to have my child's name custom cut by a CNC machine for a graduation party. Local CNC shops quoted me prices in the hundreds of dollars. I came across the Middle County Library through a referral from my own library. The Middle Country Library (Centereach building) has an innovative space with 3D printer, a router, an engraver and much much more. I setup an appointment with Don and he was super helpful in accomplishing what I needed to get done. He laid out the design and had the machine cutting it out within 15 minutes. The final product came out perfect and was used at the graduation party the next day. These services provided in the library are rare, but they are keeping up with the cusp of technology. Avoid Middle Country Public Library. There are friendly staff members but most are often rude and do not make eye contact. Makes it feel as if many who work here might not like you because of your skin color. Doesn't seem to value the public members who utilize and support the library, but again not sure if all feel this way but as a colored member of the community I feel this way and consistently get stares at best, lack of acknowledgement and rude service from many staff members. It seems a better choice to not support this library and instead spend funds and provide support to the bookstores and other local activity centers where you are welcomed with smiles, given thanks for your business and participation, and truly valued and accommodated...
