They state that they are a large antique buyer, but one cannot take ones antiques there for cash, one has to email photos. I sent a photo of an 18th Century Spain religious leather binder that was purchased at William Doyle Galleries in NYC many years ago with antique antiphonal, and an antique Asian vase. Lawson recommended a place further away to sell the 18th century leather and never responded about the vase at all even though it is supposedly rare and of unknown metal alloys, and Lawson has it is seeking Asian art on its website. Many of the antique stores I call in the Albany, NY area are closed down. I will never purchase another antique again because of the difficulty of resale. I should be able to resell my antiques the same day for a good price. I may have to go all the way to NYC. Some offer pawn shop prices for antiques in Upstate, NY. I recently sold a pair of 18th Century European portraits that were appraised by Sotheby at $1,500 (fifteen hundred dollars) more than two decades ago. I sold them for a mere for $150 (one hundred fifty dollars) at another Albany antique buyer. I will never purchase...
Read moreSeveral years ago, we inherited an art collection. The collection included over five hundred pieces of artwork from both Eastern European and American artists. (Including but not limited to oils, drawings, lithographs, engravings, and original inks.) Since the collection was not catalogued, we had no idea how to organize it, who some of the artists were and the overall value. We met with Mark Lawson, and he agreed to take on the task of researching the artist for each piece, organizing the collection, and eventually auctioning it for us. He was able to identify each piece and arrange an auction in less than 6 months. We were impressed by the professionalism and attention to detail that he and his staff exhibited. We were also pleased with the first auction in which a majority of the artwork was sold. Subsequently he arranged a second auction in which additional pieces were sold. Finally, with our approval donated the remainder of the artwork to a local charity. We would gladly recommend Mark Lawsons Antiques to anyone seeking appraisals or someone...
Read moreAfter finally emptying the jewelry boxes of my mother, grandmother and mother-in-law who have been deceased for decades, I had no idea what most of the pieces really were made of or if they had any value. I phoned Mark Lawson and spoke with a very pleasant Juliana who understood my dilemma and set up an appointment for me to meet with Mr. Lawson. Although I had hundreds of pieces of jewelry, he took his time to look at each piece and determine if it had any value. I was concerned about being embarrassed or treated like I was wasting his time but felt just the opposite. He was professional, knowledgeable and answered my many questions with a patience that made me feel very comfortable and confident that he was being more than fair in his assessment of the pieces and value he was willing to pay for items. I would highly recommend Mark Lawson to anyone who has something they would like to sell but don’t know...
