Grew up in Scotia. As of the last hurricane that flooded out the lake and park, a bunch of heavy metals got washed into the lake from the river. Can't swim there anymore, and I wouldn't eat the fish. But there's a number of relaxing spots to toss a pole in the water or float around on a boat. The island in the middle is a bird sanctuary so you can't land boats there, and the birds do cause issues in the community. Plenty of grills around the lake in case you want to bring your family and they aren't really into the fishing thing.
