Title: "A Beacon of Safety: Nassau County Firefighters Museum"
Review:
The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center is a prominent and engaging destination that provides profound insight into the realm of firefighting. Among the exhibits, the restored 9/11 Fire Engine stands out as a heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes. The museum is rich with educational exhibits, such as the working fire simulator and antique fire engines, offering hands-on experiences for all ages.
What sets this museum apart is its commitment to fire safety education. The interactive children's area entertains and imparts valuable fire prevention and response lessons. Located conveniently on Museum Row, it's an ideal stop for families. Additionally, I greatly appreciated the personal education I received from the volunteer firefighter overseeing the museum during my visit. This visit was an enlightening journey through firefighting history and safety, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an educational and...
Read moreWe visited the firefighter museum yesterday for a birthday party and didn't know what to expect -- it was fantastic!! There were kids of all ages and each one was having a blast, especially our daughter who loved meeting real life firefighters and "driving" their firetrucks. The party itself was well organized and in such a cute room that was enclosed enough to have a separate space but open enough to let kids roam if they wanted to play. It was a lot of fun!
After pizza and birthday cake, we all went in various directions to tour the museum. The firefighters were very kind and patient with all of the kids running around, offering to take photos for us and teach us all about fire safety and the equipment, and they were super knowledgeable which made it fun for everyone (parents too!).
This museum was great even if you don't have kids with you and is right next to a bunch of other museums too. We can't wait to go back when we have some more time. Make sure to get a badge for your junior...
Read moreThis post is not related to the experience at the museum which I’m sure is wonderful, it has to do with the poor communication of the current opening hours. Both on the website and on the phone it is clear that the museum should be open until 5pm. I arrived at 4:20pm on a Friday (today) for a quick visit with my young children. We were informed that the museum was closing due to required cleaning so that all staff could leave by 5pm. This was told to us as I said it was my daughter’s birthday and that we understood it was open until 5pm as communicated everywhere (my daughter then burst into tears). While the Covid cleaning requirements make complete sense, I would kindly request for the opening hours to be accurately reflected with a 4:15pm closure time; and a bit of compassion when parents arrive at the doors with their young children within...
