I had the opportunity to attend Ivy's workshop last year. I distinctly remember feeling pretty down that day, and not planning to attend. I’m glad I was able to. Upon arriving, I was warmly invited into her beautiful gallery and studio on the art trail. It was elegant and filled with bright colors and beautiful paintings. Ivy provided all the materials, which made it super convenient, so I just had to show up. She was patient, instructing us individually and collectively, while guiding us through each step in the process. Although I have taken a few art classes/workshops, it was really interesting to learn to use a different medium, and the class was a good size so that we could have individual support, but still learn from each other’s different artistic style. It was an excellent way to meet new people in the community. I really liked that I had independence to choose what I wanted my piece to look like and since I love the ocean, I used that to inspire what I created. Attending the workshop definitely switched my day around and brought me joy (and a pretty piece of art to decorate with!).
I love checking out gallery nights in the area, and was intrigued to see a few of her exhibits around town. I’ve noticed how her abstract and cheery artwork has the ability to appeal to a wide variety of tastes. She seems to constantly be trying different mediums and approaches to her work which has really evolved her designs beautifully. Ithaca is an awesome place to meet unique artists and I would highly recommend checking out her gallery...
Read moreI am primarily a fabric artist, but I love exploring the moods, styles and nuances of abstract acrylic painting. I was planning to take a group class with Ivy at a regional art center, but when I encountered a scheduling conflict, Ivy offered a one-on-one class in her studio.
Well! I’d been to Ivy’s studio before and I never get tired of it. Walking in is like stepping foot into a candy store. So much color! So much texture! So much inspiration! Her work is vibrant and engaging, whether viewed at a distance, or close up - which you must take the time to do so that you don't miss an array of beautiful surprises!
In the middle of this visual feast is a large work space, all set up and ready to go. Ivy had prepared all the materials so we were ready to begin right away. She focused the class on the specific techniques I wanted to learn, her guidance and instruction were clear, she patiently answered all of my questions, and her feedback was always encouraging. My only complaint was that I blinked and our two hours were over.
Thank you, Ivy, for the beauty that you create and share. I look forward to...
Read moreIvy's art is beautiful and uplifting but this review is about her teaching. My high school aged son has been a student of Ivy's for the past two years. Ivy and her studio have provided Nathan with a wonderful art education that includes both skills and technique development, understanding of color and knowledge about art and creating art generally. Normally we cannot get him out of bed for anything but he is always up and ready for his weekend art class. Nathan loves learning from and working with ivy. The work product he brings home blows us away because he was a true beginning at the beginning of his lessons with Ivy. The picture below shows Nathan's work on the left next to Ivy's work on the right. I recommend this studio to all art lovers, art learners and those who want to learn more about...
