Went to best buy to purchase a system for my car. ( I stood in the audio section for 15 minutes before an employee came to help. There was 3 employees about 20 feet away from where I was, too engaged talking about dc and marvel and villains.. Should have been my first hint to go somewhere else).I purchased everything, deck, sub, amp, harness kit, kit to make my buttons on my steering wheel work etc. Even purchased total tech support .So over $1000 later, I first get the deck installed. No problems, works great. Make a second appointment to get everything else installed and that is where this story goes south. I leave after install and notice a "rattling" noise coming from the left of the steering wheel near the dash area. (System was NOT on, and "rattle" was not there before). Sync my phone to the deck set up my eq preference etc.. Start to play Pandora, go to use the skip button on my steering wheel, shuts the deck off and restarts it like it had never been on before. Shows demo video had to reset my eq resync my phone etc.(also shuts off the deck and restarts from beginning when I use the volume up button). When I turn my car off then restart after some time, the radio starts from the beginning again. Gives me the demo video etc. Some times it resets my preferences some times not.. The other day I was driving down interstate 81, and noticed a loud buzzing between songs. I do some research and find out that this is called electric noise caused from running the power, remote, and rca wires down the same side of the car. When the amp kit specifically states to run the power cord down one side of the car and the other wires down the opposite side. I could have done this install myself. But i wanted to leave it to the "professionals" so it would be prestine. Guess I was wrong there. I have an appointment today April 27th 2019 so they can take a look and fix what is wrong. I will update after. Hopefully this is not a wasted trip. UPDATE: went to my appointment and they switched out my deck. Drove around all was well (or so thought).. Got a phone call, went to answer through the Bluetooth mode.. I could hear the caller clearly, but they could not hear me at all. 20 minutes after that went to use the steering wheel control to turn up the volume, and stereo shut off and restarted. Back to best buy for now the 3rd time for the same problem. Switched out the steering wheel control module, and connected the microphone that was never done. Seems to be working ok now after the 3rd time there for the same thing. Smh. UPDATE. May 2nd 2019.. Go to start my car this morning, deck resets itself again.. No bueno. So now I have to go for a 4th time for the same problem.. Wow. Pay a bunch of money for parts, total tech support, etc and now I have to waste more time away from my family, gas, wear and tear on my vehicle to get this fixed again which should havr been good from start. UPDATE: dealt with CJ and Brian, and everything is all good now. Changed out my deck to a new brand and worked some magic and all is...
Read moreThere are a bunch of scathing reviews of this bb, so I figured I'd throw in my two cents for a bit of balance. I've been a very regular customer for my small business - getting stuff that we need very quickly or that's actually cheaper than online (we're in an Empire Zone business thingy, so we don't pay sales tax).
While the place isn't exactly the peak of customer service and knowledgeable salespeople, and there've been some obnoxious experiences (a clueless register person being unable to locate my tax exempt file), in general it's been fine.
Only that one salesperson was a bit rude; the rest are pleasant if not expert, and sometimes quite helpful. And my usual tax-exempt register lady actually recognizes me!
I'd be leery of coming in to do a big-ticket purchase (TV/computer) without knowing what I wanted beforehand, but for stop-n-grab stuff I've had few complaints.
The worst thing? Don't buy any of their 'rocketfish' branded stuff. I made the mistake of grabbing a sound card (thinking anything had to be better than creative labs on the driver side) and it was an absolute abomination - and to top it off, it was just a rebrand of an obsolete Creative chipset and the drivers failed! BUT: I was able to return it no questions asked, and have never had a problem returning anything, whether it was broken or not.
The best experience? I needed to pull my Pioneer head unit from my car but had lost the little puller things. I figured it'd be worth paying for 'em or even paying the install people at BB $15 to yank it for me, but instead they offered to give me a set of pullers to do it myself and asked me to return them to the front desk. They didn't have any particular reason to make that effort, and I didn't know either of the guys, so that's a Good Thing.
All in all, some of BB's corporate red tape is annoying, particularly regarding the Reward Zone stuff, but I have yet to find a really good reason to quit buying stuff there. For custom computer builds and high end stuff, I go to my local guy - but to grab a quickie LCD monitor or emergency power supply, it's more...
Read moreThis review is specifically about my experience with the Geek Squad at this location. Would NOT recommend based on my experience!
Shorter story: They were apathetic, gave me wrong information about how my phone was beyond repair, and nearly convinced me to spend $800+ to replace my old phone which was later totally and perfectly repaired in less than 30 mins and for less than $100 by another local repair shop.
Longer story: I clumsily dropped my iPhone and as a result, the home button wouldn’t work (everything else seemed fine). Factory resetting the device did not fix the issue. So the following day I set up an appointment with someone from the Geek Squad at this location. The young man working the desk just told me without even examining my phone that there was no point in trying to save my phone or try to send it to Apple for a fix because they’d just tell me to replace it. And then he gave me all this technical jargon about the circuits being damaged beyond repair and that my only option was to buy a new phone. I was pretty bummed that I might have to spend $800-$900 on a new iPhone. But I was highly skeptical because I sensed this employee just wasn’t in the mood to help seriously. So I went to another repair place and within 20 minutes, got my phone working perfectly, home button and all - under 100 bucks. The guy at this other repair place even told me first thing when I walked up that “this is a very common problem and can be fixed very easily.”
So yeah, not a great experience with Geek Squad unfortunately, though it pains me to write negative reviews (but hopefully will also save others in the same situation as me save money).
P.S. I don’t fault the employee. Likely not getting incentivized enough to care. Best Buy, step...
