I went to the Regal Cinema in Ithaca, NY today and attempted to see the 12:20 showing of Dune. I waited in silence, while the woman in front of me on the line took a full half hour to buy her tickets and snacks. We were in a cash-only line. (There was a large sign in bold letters stating so.) Her bill came to $250. The woman tried to pay by credit card.. The cashier took her credit card information and said she would run it through later.
I then stepped up to the cash register. The cashier informed me her computer was down, and she needed to open a new cash register. She disappeared into a back room, and I never saw her again. There are now ten people on line behind me. After 15 minutes, the line at the next register ended and that cashier offered to help me, even though it was a credit card only line. When I requested a ticket for the 12:20 showing, I was informed I was mistaken; the first showing would be at 1:30. I pointed out that the Regal website advertised the 12:20 showing. I had already been on line fo 45 minutes. I was not about to wait another 45 minutes for the film to start. No apology was offered, let alone any good faith gesture for this poor service. It is nearly an hour’s drive from where I live to Ithaca. Gas is currently selling for $4.50 a gallon here.
This is now the second time in a row that I have received shoddy treatment by Regal Cinemas. A few weeks ago, I went to Regal to see a one-time-only showing of a classic horror film. When I asked for a senior discount, I was informed that there were no discounts; all tickets were $15. (That’s a 50% hike in the ticket price. I can’t imagine Regal had to pay nearly as much to show this film as Hollywood new releases cost.) The Regal website had listed this film showing at 1:00. When I tried to buy a ticket, the cashier informed me the film had started at 12:00, it was already half over, but he was happy to still sell me the $15 ticket. When I informed him the website said 1:00, the cashier pointed to the list of film times posted above his head, which showed the film had started at 12:00; I was mistaken.
I moved to rural Central New York from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, shortly before the pandemic shutdown. I often went to the Williamsburg Cinema, also a chain, and a ten-minute walk from my home. (Contrast this with going to the Regal Cinema in Ithaca, which for me is nearly a two-hour roundtrip drive and $9 for gas.) Twice, similar problems arose when I had tried to see a film at the Williamsburg Cinema. In both cases, the management took responsibility for their error, and apologized. They even comped me tickets (which I had not requested) as a show of good faith and desire for my continued patronage.
I find it noteworthy that NYC cinemas appreciate their customers’ patronage far more than Regal values its rural upstate customers. Your chutzpah takes my...
Read moreMovie theaters are nice, sound is great and seats are ok. Would be better if they offered reclining seats. Bathrooms are absolutely disgusting (Men's room smelled of urine)! Our last visit, a group of four people decided to bring in a small dog and decided it would be ok to have it in their lap the whole time. (This was not a service dog!) They proceeded to feed and water the dog as well. Me being a dog owner myself (Great Pyrenees) I will surely make it a point to bring mine in with me next time, joking of course! My concern was, people who are allergic and what would've happened if the dog had bitten someone. Would the victim threaten to sue the venue and pet owner? This day and age who knows? Moving on to pricing. A family of four to see a movie was around $70. That's purchasing gift cards from BJ's for Regal Cinemas before hand. Otherwise full price would've been closer to $100... really! It's a wonder why I don't take my family to the movies more often. Large soda and popcorn we're $16.50, just let...
Read more6/6/24 I went to the Ithaca Regal Cinema movie theater, and at the end of my movie I went into the bathroom and smelt something awful, I was in the bathroom stall and look down I was stepping in human excrement all over the the floor, It was the most disgusting thing, My shoes were so covered in it I left my sandals right on top of the sink counter and walked out of the theater and into the mall barefoot. It was humiliatingly and embarrassing because I was with a friend at the movies. I was so embarrassed my friend went a spoke to a theater worker about it because I didn't even want to voice what happened and they said "Oh, I told someone about it....I guess they didn't clean it up yet" in utter shock on her face, the way she said it to seemed as if she told them an hour prior. I had to throw out my sandals (leaving them on the sink) they were caked with it.... it was smeared literally all over the floor. Ithaca Regal...
