Nestled in the quaint village of Montour Falls, New York, Shequaga Falls—also known as “She-qua-ga” or “tumbling waters”—is a true hidden gem that feels like a secret whispered by nature. This stunning 156-foot waterfall cascades down the cliffs right into the heart of the village, creating a dramatic and serene scene that seems straight out of a fairytale. As a traveler constantly seeking authentic and picturesque locations, I was genuinely taken aback by how accessible and beautiful this spot is.
In the photo I snapped during my visit, you can see how Shequaga Falls steals the spotlight—framed perfectly by the still-bare early spring trees and a brilliant blue sky dotted with cottony clouds. The vibrant green of the lawn and the bright yellow forsythia in bloom bring the whole scene to life. What’s especially striking is how the falls are right at the end of a residential block—you’re literally standing between homes and suddenly met with this powerful natural spectacle.
Whether you’re a road tripper passing through the Finger Lakes or a photographer chasing natural beauty, Shequaga Falls is worth a quick detour. It’s peaceful, photogenic, and free to visit—exactly the kind of unexpected joy that makes travel so addictive. Don’t forget to bring your camera—it’s hard to take a...
Read moreA spectacular waterfall in the heart of Montour Falls. Who would have thought a waterfall could be viewed so easily at the end of Main St in Montour Falls. We parked on Main St, I looked down the street and at the end was a spectacular waterfall. Pros Can be seen from a far distance at the end of Main St. Enjoyed the sign at the street with the name She-qua-ga and its history. Nice walkway leading to the waterfall. Very nice WWII memorial along the walkway. The stone wall around the waterfall was close enough to get a good view and far enough away to get the entire waterfall in the camera shot. Spectacular waterfall! Cons No onsite parking need to walk...
Read moreSurprising that this huge fantastic waterfall is in town! GPS took us to the top of the fall. There isn't any parking up there. We went down and we found it. There are 2 parking spaces right in front of a small park with some benches along the sidewalk. We ending up parking on a side street and walking over. It wasn't overly crowded. It had been raining so the falls were really roaring in the area. I would imagine it would still be impressive without...
