TLDR: Don’t use Geek Squad for Apple products. Go directly to an Apple Store. What happened: Brought in an iPhone for a battery replacement covered by AppleCare. Was first told by check in agent it would be a $100 deductible. Luckily, I had the service confirmation that showed battery service was completely covered. He had to call Apple and figure it out, but we got that taken care of. Left my phone with them for the service (told would take 2 hours, about what is expected for type of service) and 30 minutes later received a call that the repair agent broke part of my device internally during battery replacement. Offered to replace phone, told it would be 2-5 days for new phone to arrive. Took 9 days for new phone to come in. Was told I would not be able to keep my phone (the one they broke) during that 9 day period. Once new phone arrived, during the transfer process, they were unable to complete the cellular transfer portion and sent me to my carrier store. Carrier employees solved problem (a VPN was blocking the WiFi, something geek squad should have very well known. Just got lucky that the Spectrum employees had experience with Apple devices.) Dealt with 5 different employees throughout the whole process, none seemed to know how to problem solve. A giant headache and inconvenience for a simple battery service. Poor customer service, widespread incompetence among employees, and general inefficiency at every encounter with New Hartford Geek Squad during...
Read moreI was never allowed to repair my own phone screen, as my boyfriend didnt want me to break my phone more. However, when a can of sauce took an extended tumble from the top of my pantry all the way down onto the floor when my brother had proceeded to spartan kick me in the back I decided to call geek squad (using my old phone) and as far as the call had went, it was stupendous ! Once I had taken to time out of my day to drive 45 mins to stand in line for another 40 while this woman's coworker spent all of his time tackling other clients like a fat boy eating cake, she had finally graced me with her presence by walking out of the break room, just to tell me she couldn't fix my phone (Because my phone was completely paid for already), there was no one else who could do it but another best buy nothing short than a 2 hours drive from there (I had passed an even cheaper, better place to repair my phone on the way there), and that I had spoke to a robot over call (Even though her coworker knew immediately what I was there for and told her my entire drivers manual for my car) Was hoping to get my phone repaired, however I received an aneurysm instead trying not to tell her to be for real. Great for wanting another reason to hate on geek squad, bad...
Read moreI’m highly recommending you don’t go to Geek Squad for iPhone repairs at Best Buy in New Hartford. I’ve been through a three week ringer over getting my battery replaced that escalated into an entire internal mid system replacement due to my volume down button not working after I received it. After bringing it back and getting the mid system replaced the phone was reset and it treated that as a new phone that I didn’t have a “previous” iPhone to recover the back up from. If I didn’t have a MacBook to receive the 6 digit code the back up system provides I would’ve been screwed and I was not notified this would be the case prior to returning the phone for a mid system repair. It’s a good thing I’m tech savvy otherwise an average person that isn’t technologically versed would’ve had a nightmare with this. I’ll say they at least didn’t charge me for the mid system replacement, just the battery replacement. Check out iPhone Hero in Rome , N.Y. He’s a great guy and extremely knowledgeable on these devices and the processes with repairs and the companies involved to deliver customer satisfaction and...
