Had a poor experience today at the library. Contacted East Williston library which was closed, and shelter rock library that said their color printer was not working, today or tomorrow and could not say when it would be workings.
Then called Mineola Library to see if I could print out a color copy and the lady on the phone said yes. Upon arriving at 5:17 I was told that the library closes at 5:30 and everything is already shut down. I rushed out the door in traffic to get over there. While waiting for the lady who was helping me, that stepped away, John popped into the reception area saying something about "we're done now, so you can go" when I was not in a conversation with him. I wasn't sure if this person was "special" in some way the way he just burst out with this statement out of nowhere. Wasn't really sure what to make of this person. Perhaps he was trying to be funny. (that didn't work out so well- it actually escalated the situation). When I asked the 4 staff including John standing in the reception area, if he (or they) could provide an email address for the director of the library the Jackie came from the back yelling "why are you giving out the directors email address! We never give out Charles email address". So between John, Jackie, & 2 other ladies at the front reception (one w/blonde hair and a brunette) not one person could provide a proper email address. It's nice to know that hard working tax paying dollars put to work, with unprofessional actions, and no one competent of even their library email address?? So headed to Shelter Rock Library which was opened and able to go above and beyond to help after I told them I just came from Mineola Library. Thank you A.J. for your kindness and professionalism at Shelter Rock Library. :-) I am...
Read moreThe library itself is fine. The policies, however, are not. I'm a patron of another library within the Nassau Library system. When I called the reference desk to ask if I could pick up a video game, I was told I was allowed. I also asked if there were any restrictions because I was a patron of another library. I was assured that there would be no issue picking it up. Because you cannot normally request video games to be sent to your home library (either in person or on the library's online catalog), I made the trip out of my way to pick it up, and it turned into an hour thanks to rush hour. I was turned away at the circulation desk due to the fact that I was not a patron of Mineola Library, and could not become a patron unless I lived there. I was extremely angry that hour-long ride home thanks to the misinformation (or disinformation, but hopefully not) I had received from them. I would advise anybody outside of Mineola to not go to this library for video game pick ups, because they follow the Nassau Library system rules, which has an exclusivity towards video game holds for your home library only.
2023 edit: I originally wrote this review years ago, pre-pandemic, and I do not know if the Nassau Library system changed this video game policy since the pandemic began. I also made some grammar changes. I will re-do this rating again once the Nassau Library system changes its policy regarding video games, to help other gamers...
Read moreThe director of this library threw an angry outburst toward me. He yelled and screamed at me when I told him his secretary was making too much noise in the study area. When I told him excessive noise is a violation of the code of conduct, he yelled "the code of conduct only applies to outside people, not employees. Get out of my office! I will call the police!" He continued threatening and harassing me for about 10 minutes. The secretary joined the attack in the last 5 minutes. Their attack continued until I escaped and returned to the study area. In the past, I have seen him yelling at students and kids in the library and kicking them out of the library. He also said bad words to them. This happened at least three times in the past six years. His rage attack is serious.
The secretary is constantly making excessive noise. Between 6 pm and 9 pm when there are fewer people in the library, she spends hours talking about her personal life extremely loudly. During the daytime, she laughs and talks very loudly while walking in the study area. She enjoys making sharp noise and making people startled. She does this...
