Cornerstone Bar — Restaurant in Town of North Hempstead

The new ownership is just what this Mineola institution needed to refresh its brand. The staff is friendly/laissez-faire in that typical "Long Island" way (if you live here, you get it). The bar side can be a bit cramped on busy nights but the restaurant side is very spacious. The copious number of TVs make it ideal for Sunday football and they do occasionally rent the space for private events. The menu has been updated and upgraded but still retains that bar food charm. The wings are of the well-done variety, if you like that and are plenty spicy (although, your taste may vary). I enjoyed the addition of hot pepper flakes on their hottest wings. The baked clams, giant pretzel and quesadillas are perfect apps while the full menu is surprisingly extensive with meatloaf, pot and Sheppard's pie, and a triple meat blend burger that knocks it out of the park. Worst bar experience ever. The short bartender with short hair rejected my friends out of state ID and said "screw you" to him when he tried to use it- his legal state identification. After that he was a coward and wouldnt even come over to us to talk about it and would only cater to the office party who had rented part of the bar for the night. He got all of our drinks wrong back to back rounds and belittled one person in our group and wouldn't listen to her. He made my friend leave the bar even though he had a valid Colorado state license, absolutely absurd. A disgusting human being and for sure the last time any of us are coming...

The service was great. We went to have a lite dinner, a beer, and hear some music. My wife had a sandwich that was good. My flatbread pizza was very soft and had way too much cheese. The bar side of Cornerstone was very loud. The band was on the restaurant side. This does not reflect Cornerstone but the band was very loud for the size of the place. The drummer must have thought he was playing at MSG. He wailed on the drums so everyone else had to pump up the volume to be heard. We left after an hour. When we left, there were at least a dozen people smoking outside. Guess I'm just not used to...
