Advent Shop — Attraction in Town of Oyster Bay

Our recent experience at the Advent Shop was absolutely heartwarming. First and foremost the articles and items for sale are reasonably priced, excellent quality and a wide selection to choose from. With a young family member about to undergo Cochlear Implant surgery, we went there to buy St. Francis of Sales medal, the Saint for hearing problems. We are in our late 80's and our first Great Grandson was born deaf. After assisting us with the medal Carolyn and Marge were so knowledgeable, caring and helpful. Because it was our first time there, they took extra time to explain the story of the miraculous photo on the wall of Our Lady of Medjugorje which originally black and white miraculously became colored over a period of a year. A very moving experience to leave our prayer request for her blessings. It was common knowledge that Sarah, the owner, is also a very caring, knowledgeable woman and easy to see how she only hires people who instill her same values. I’m very frustrated by my experience here. If you are going in to buy an item in stock the store is competitively priced and has a decent collection. However, I would never order anything through this store again. I went in to look for a matching image of the Sacred heart of Jesus and Immaculate heart of Mary to have an enthronement done in our home. They had an image I loved of Mary but had to order the matching Jesus, fine. They said it would take about a week. 4 weeks later and many phone calls the image is STILL NOT IN, and I’m not confident it was even ordered. The shop owner has never called me to update me on the progress, and I have called them many times over the last 4 weeks. This was supposed to be a gift for my husband for Christmas, I was assured it would be in before Christmas...it still isn’t here December 27. We live out of state and the enthronement is Jan 6, so now I have to get a new image and two new frames because I want them to match. Be sure the Catholic retail store that you shop at is actually owned and operated by Catholics ! Something I learned today. Had a long and heartfelt conversation with the owner of this shop today.
