A respite from the hustle and bustle that abounds Nassau County. It has paved trails and gravel/dirt trails. The ponds between Clark and Linden Street need some serious removal of invasive species and native as well; as the ponds are barely accessible for viewing or fishing. It’s a pleasant place for young families to bring children to walk or explore on their bikes. In general, most people are respectful with the exception of the bike riders that are using the paths as if they are leading the Tour de France. Also, be cautious at street crossings...many cars are unaware of their obligation to stop for pedestrian and bike traffic. Bike riders can help the cars by dismounting their bikes and walking to the crosswalk- as is the protocol/law. All in all, it’s a nice place to visit throughout the change of seasons to decouple from suburbia and enjoy nature. It’s also possible to travel from Merrick Road in Massapequa to Cold Spring Harbor using a variety of mixed hiking and biking trails. I would rate the Greenbelt higher if the County or State would prioritize the ponds and do more frequent invasive and native species removal to provide more fishing and viewing access...the vistas would be beautiful as well. Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail is 20 mile trail from the Northshore -Cold Spring Harbour to the South shore -Massapequa. We hiked the South shore part up from Merrick Rd to about 2.5 miles North of Sunrise Highway then back down to Merrick Rd. It was well maintained both the biking path and the dirt with plank walkways in marshy sections. It wasn't crowded on the time & day we went. Which added to our pleasure of the hike. We would like to start at Cold Spring Harbour and head south for a future hike. A good tip if you're only doing sections is to have a friend/family member come with you so you can leave your car parked at the section you're planning on ending at and have them drop you off where you are going to...

I've been on this trail for years but this is the first time I went on the mountain biking portion. I didn't know how many hiking and mountain biking trails were in this area until now. I would definitely recommend any outdoorsy people to go exploring. You'll have a great time. If you decide to go on the mountain biking trails have a mountain bike. My hardtail gravel bike with road tires was not the right option for this experience, but it was an...

Excellent trail with numerous paths , easy and calm , some of them asphalted for bikes and walking people. Taking the not asphalted paths is great! You’ll forget you’re surrounded by the city. Every lake and stream give you the opportunity of a nice photography . Lots of wildlife that I assumed is accustomed to humans , making the perfect photography subjects.
