I visited New York Burger Bar in Massapequa on Wednesday 11/29/17 at around 8pm. Having been here previously and having a good experience, I decided to return for a burger and a beer. I had a Blue Point Toasted Lager while I looked at the menu and decided on what type of burger I was going to have. I decided to build my own burger, so I choose the 8oz proprietary blend of beef, Swiss cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, avocado and a fried egg. The bartender who took my order wasn’t very friendly, but she was attentive. Upon arrival, my burger had great visual presentation. The handcut fries were small pieces and a little overcooked, but I was more interested in the burger. After taking a bite or two of the burger, I realized that my burger was well done instead of medium rare, which is how I ordered it. Since it took a while to come out, plus it was getting late, and the bartender seemed unaware, I decided to eat it and not say anything. When I was done eating, she came over to clear my plate and asked how everything was. Better late than never I guess. I told her that I felt like my burger was overcooked. She apologized and sent over a manager, who offered us dessert and comped my burger. I said this in another review and I’ll say it again. To the chefs/cooks working in the kitchens at burger joints, learn how to properly cook and temp your burgers. That’s all you cook, you have to get it right! I’m deducting one star because the bartender wasn’t friendly and I’m deducting another star because the burger was completely over cooked. I’d still return and give it...
Read more2nd review 2022~I chose New York Burger Bar again because I have been here a few times and like the food and the atmosphere but tonight was different. We sat at the bar for drinks and dinner instead of the dining room. It was a nice switch up because we had the perfect bartender named Nino. He was very attentive and quite charismatic. He really added some unexpected fun to our night. I had the Greek salad with grilled chicken & red wine vinaigrette which was so fresh and very delicious. I took half home. Yes, I know it's a burger bar but I wanted a salad. My friend had the Belmont steak burger & her daughter ordered the Mac attack burger. They both enjoyed their meals. We already made a plan to come back here the next time we meet up. See you next time Nino.
1st review in 2021~Brought my family here today and what a treat it was. Our waitress was very friendly. I wish I got her name so her boss could see this. Speaking of her boss, he brought a free sample of their newest item, pork wings with Asian Sauce for us to try and they were absolutely delicious. I didn't even get to take a picture of them because we devoured them so fast. My son ordered the Mac attack Burger, my sister got the grilled chicken with avocado sandwich and I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with coleslaw. Everything was excellent. We will be...
Read moreI came to nybb with high expectations especially with their proclaimed #1 burger by Newsday.
Starting this off by saying that the hostess' and bar staff were absolutely delightful, and worked with us and our awkward party situation, but that was the only positive part of my experience.
The parking is nonexistent. We parked in the lot directly behind the building, where one of the entrances is located. Apparently we ran the risk of being towed, and I had to park a few blocks away on the side street.
Portion sizes were very small, especially for +$8 appetizers. For $16 I ordered supposedly the best burger on Long Island, medium rare, and was served a bland hockey puck with napalm cheese inside. Hungry, and without the time to wait for another, I ate the burger. The fries I feel were so greasey that I can only assume the potato was there to garnish the oil.
There are many delicious, inexpensive, consistent, and down right sinful options for burger joints in Massapequa. Sadly, I do not feel that New York Burger Bar can be counted amongst them. The happy hour deals are the only thing that I enjoyed, and felt were worth the trip.
Edit: luckily, my experience above was the only bad experience I have had since going to nybb. It seems my first visit must have been a fluke. I think they are a bit more on the pricy...
