Surprisingly informative and well-done visitors center in such a quiet town. The historic site features restoration of the E.B. Grandin business which printed the first 4,000 copies of the Book of Mormon and helped launch the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This facility is operated by the church and offers free guided tours hosted by missionaries. The tour includes an interesting explanation of the bookmaking and binding process available during the 1800s and includes many interactive displays. Unless you go into the building you would never know what's inside. Highly recommend a visit and the free informational tour. The tour may be a bit long for smaller children but there's Marks Pizza across the street and Port Palmyra off the Erie Canal just a few minute walk just behind the building in Palmyra's historic canal district.

This is primarily a religious site for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church or Mormons) in addition to being a fascinating historic site. This is the printing press where the Book of Mormon was first printed. Because of the religious significance, the LDS Church has restored the building with meticulous detail. The guides will be talking at length about the religious significance of the place, but they also spend a lot of time talking about the printing process. They regularly host non-LDS visitors and are gracious and respectful. As a Mormon, I enjoyed it greatly and interesting to see the printing process and a 19th century printing business.

I had a really great experience at the Grandin Press. Other church history sites may give the impression of being too body or annoyed that you've arrived and that they can't fit you in with the overwhelming number of tour buses, but not the senior couple who was at the Grandin Press today. They made sure we got a great tour of the Grandin Press. They called it a "condensed" tour but it still let us see and experience the press and the history there in short order. I'm really grateful for the welcome we received at the Grandin Press as well as the understanding of being able to fill the desires of a family visit as opposed to a big group.

Fantastic experience visiting this museum. I especially loved the details about the old printing press, the restored building with cut-away sections to see original structure. Also their attention to details like restoring the bookstore like it was in the 1800s. Loved the original copy of the Book of Mormon on display, donated by a non-member of the Church who collected books. All the stories about the Erie Canal were very interesting. The original paintings were beautiful. Will go again someday.

Book lovers should enjoy! A very well kept museum that shows the lengths the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has gone to preserve the history but also the building. Other building the street have lost character due to lightning, signage, etc. It's really a shame the town hasn't done a better job of emphasizing the history and architecture of the time. The museum focuses on the Book of Mormon, but book lovers will appreciate learning about how books were made during the period.

We stopped by because we were in town to visit historical sites and I was really impressed. It was much cooler than I expected. The front just looks like a regular, brick store front even if it looks old. Inside they've preserved the floors and most of the brick from the original building. They have it fully restored with a detailed tour of everything that was needed for the original printing press and binding. It was fascinating and even the kids really enjoyed it.
