I visited Historic Palmyra while checking out places listed on the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. Their website gives descriptions of the five buildings, but doesn't give a true sense of the scale of the museum's collection. Each building has hundreds of items related to Palmyra, the Erie Canal, and Western New York and many, like the Phelps General Store and Print Shop, have entire collections that are original to the building. The staff are knowledgeable and exceptionally friendly, happy to chat about any of the items and share the inside scoop on the historical figures who have lived in or passed through Palmyra.
