Aldi has become one of my most crutial assets in food shopping. Prices are always considerably lower than the grocery store national chains and quality has steadily improved as the years have passed.
This quirky but utilitarian grocers has everything a modern American family would need but don't expect to find a huge selection of variety for each item. Aldi seems to have efficientized the grocery shop by recognizing the staples and producing their own store brand generic version of it to sell without stocking several versions of the same product. Take for example cereal- Aldi will sell maybe 10 varieties of the most popular varieties in their own brand but don't expect to find multiple sizes and brand selections- that's where you're money savings comes in.
The last 10 years have seen some significant improvement in terms of quality of each product. It is quite obvious to those who pay attention that Aldi has relentlessly tested each generic they offer to ensure it's a good product and when stand behind their product with a double guarantee (money back plus new product replacement- no questions asked)
Some things to consider:
You will need to bring your own bags as they do not supply free bags. This saves money for both the company and the customer but also is an environmentally responsible move to encourage reuse and not waste. Customers can also utilize boxes available free in the store to haul their foodstuffs home- or purchase bags at the till.
Shopping carts are "rented" by means of 25¢ deposit that you'll receive back upon returning the cart to the queue in the front of the store outside. This saves the parking lot from being cluttered with carts left by lazy patrons and keeps the carts in good working order.
Coupons are not accepted at Aldi.
Check that your preffered payment choice is accepted before shopping. Some may not accept debit cards or other forms.
The attractive pricing sometimes attracts the sort of patrons that are of a less than charming personality. This is not a huge issue in my local Aldi, but in other stores I've visited, I wished I exercised the 2nd amendments rights for my own protection.
Queue lines are sometimes a bit lengthy- minimal employees saves money but can also lead to somewhat Lengthy wait times. Ironically, with only 1 or 2 cashiers, the wait is still less than my...
Read moreI haven't been to this Aldi store in several years. Definitely before the remodel. This was a very clean store some things didn't have prices which was a little difficult but in general it was very well stocked. I asked one Store employee where the bathrooms were and he actually had me followed him and showed me where the bathrooms. I forgot his name but he was very nice. If you need his name just ask the store employees from Thursday July 14th about an hour or so before closing the store employee name who showed a lady in the electric cart where the bathrooms were who haven't shopped here in a long time. Another store employee named Lonnie was very helpful. I couldn't find two specific items I was looking for and Lonnie went and got them for me and brought them to me. I really enjoyed my shopping trip to the store. The store employees including the check out person who came out to my vehicle to get the electric cart so I don't have to bring it back. I will definitely be back to the store when I come to Kingston again. I got a lot of well priced items and things I had not seen before. It was a small shopping trip. I got the six pack a meal replacement drinks for only $4.99 which is cheaper than Walmart. A 32 oz whey protein powder for $14.39. Which is cheaper than CVS where I usually get it for $20.99. I did buy an apple strudel breakfast bread for $3.99 which was a little bit of a Splurge for me but I make French toast with it. I've eaten that before and it's fantastic. A very large bag of fresh spinach for $0.99. Asparagus for $2.39 a pound. I also couldn't resist the cheesy garlic bread flavored potato chips which I have never tried yet. They were only $1.69 for a 9.5 oz bag. I can't wait to try the new item I've never tried before the spinach and cheese manicotti which is $4.99 for a 19 Oz package. I bought sauce to go with that and a refrigerated pie crust for a $1.69. I'm going to make a blueberry tarts with that. I hope this review is...
Read moreI like Aldi stores in general, so I really don't like giving mediocre reviews to a place that tried to keep it's prices down.
But, that being said, i was surprised at how disorganized everything in the store was.
I was visiting NY from North Dakota, and we stopped here to try to find items for a dinner party. The meat selection was very slim, almost non existent for a grocery chain, and the produce area was in complete disarray.
The prices weren't really all that different from the other grocers in the area, but the brands that were offered were obviously cut rate ones.
Employees were indifferent to questions we asked about locating items, they kind of pointed in a general direction and said that way. Um, ok, what way?
We went to a different store and had a much...
