This little eatery is tucked away on a busy 4 lane street in a commercial area of Kingston. With multiple chain restaurants around the corner on Ulster Ave, this spot may get overlooked but we prefer it as the hidden gem we found it to be! The decor was an understated coastal village motif, and was very clean and tidy. Temporary plexiglass half walls were placed between tables to keep risk of COVID exposure low between parties but perhaps overkill for the two occupied tables during our 2pm visit. The menu was somewhat limited and focused on seafood, but with the addition of more common fare like burgers and chicken it can meet the needs of most palates. The calamari starter was tender and delicately fried in fresh oil with a nice, warm marinara served along side for dipping. My crab cakes were deliciously spiced and about 99% fresh lump crabmeat meat! My husband's fisherman's platter was brimming with tasty seafood and whitefish, cooked to perfection. Our only real criticisms would be that his whiskey sour was a little light on whiskey and my soda was a little light on carbonation. However, given that our lovely waitress was also the hostess and busser, it was a little much to ask that she be an expert bartender as well! All in all, we found the prices more than reasonable, the food exceptional, and the service prompt and friendly. We can't wait...
Read moreWe have been twice. First with two people then with four, both on weeknights. The room was comfortable. The service was exceptional, and the food was uniformly very fresh, well prepared, delicious and exceeded expectations. There is obvious care and attention paid to every dish. This is an old school place, and considering the variety of mid Hudson dining options of all kinds, we LOVE this as one of our favorites along with some of the more stylish newcomers! First you get a simple crudite plate and some garlic bread. Meals come with soup or salad. We mostly opted for the salad which is obviously made fresh and with care. The homemade blue cheese dressing is a highlight. The menu is extensive; surf and turf, many seafood combination dishes (both broiled and fried) including a very nice Seafood Newburgh and filets stuffed with crabmeat. On the most recent evening I tried the Chicken Cordon Bleu which was enough for two meals. It was very moist white meat and accompanied by a delicious gravy. Our guests had the Seafood Newburgh, Blackened Salmon and the Seafood combo. They come with a choice of potatoes or mixed vegetables. We had the twice baked potato (great) and mixed veggies (also very fresh). This restaurant is the epitome of old style hospitality. It is not flashy, but it is obviously a...
Read moreEnjoyed a beautiful lunch at Bowery Dugout today. I was glad I made a reservation because, even at 1:30, business was hopping! There is nothing pretentious or affected about The Bowery Dugout. My guests and I felt welcome, cozy, and comfortable in the homey atmosphere. We started with Escargot (tender and PERFECTLY prepared), and Coconut Crusted Shrimp Appetizer(beautifully fried and crispy, not greasy at all). For entrees we had Panko Crusted Swai with sauteed veg. (Delicious), Coconut Crusted Shrimp Entree, (my guest gave special preparation instructions to our server that were followed to a T !), two of us ordered the Hot Lobster Roll (which was CHOCK FULL of fresh lobster...BEST Lobster Roll I've ever had), and the Caesar Salad with Shrimp entree. Two of us also had French Onion Soup (Bowery KNOWS what they're doing!). For Dessert we had Tartufo( masterfully executed), NY Cheesecake, and Limoncello Mascarpone Cake (my favorite, haven't found it anyplace else) Our server was friendly, attentive, and gave great suggestions. The order was served in a timely manner, everything was perfectly cooked and plated. There are a couple other good restaurants in Kingston, but, The Bowery Dugout has stood the test of time for a reason! We loved every minute of our...
