A really disappointing experience. My wife and I drove to SushiMakio from Kerhonkson, which is a good 35-40 minute drive after hearing great things about it. We arrived at 7pm for our reservation and were promptly greeted by a server Tim, who was very nice. He took our order around 7:05p and we were quickly given our drinks and our miso soup. The soup was wonderful. Then...things started going downhill. Other tables that arrived after us began receiving their sushi, while we sat without food. Our server never came back to check on us to see if we needed any new drinks, or to give us an update on the food. An hour went by, and at 8:05pm we finally hunted him down to ask about the food. He told us he would find out what was going on. Another 5-10 minutes and he brought over a tiny bowl of root veggies and said they chefs would be getting started on our order soon and it would just be another 10-15 minutes. Obviously, our order had been forgotten. We chose to drive home after wasting a good 2+ hours and returning home without having dinner. The food looked good, and I recognize that mistakes happen. But for the prices, the staff must be able to rectify a situation or at least communicate effectively what's happening, and they were frazzled and non-communicative. ...

Had dinner with a friend tonight… Never going back …!!!

We had mussels appetizer, half way through the appetizer we both got spoiled mussels.. The older waiter whom had served me many times before and was always nice …had the audacity to say you ate half so you pay for half as soon as I brought it to his attention…. "I explained we got the rotten mussels half way through that’s why we ate half .. and please take it off the bill ….I said this is not how fine restaurants treat their customers..

He dropped the check with the price not adjusted after I asked twice

The question that begs to be asked is… Was this the decision of the owner/ sushi Chef or a arbitrary decision from the server???????

I eat at fine restaurants all the time and I am still in shock we were treated like this is such a high end sushi house … We could have gotten sick from spoiled shell fish…instead of concern… the waiter was rude and condescending…...stay a away from this restaurant!! Ps I now wonder if they 86’d the mussels or kept...

I really hate to write such a bad review for this place, but it was a really bad experience overall. We got mostly rolls, but the fish was very rubbery and not tender at all. The flavor on certain rolls was also overly sweet, and on other rolls there was hardly any flavor at all. Even the mochi ice cream was lacking flavor, the red bean didn’t taste like anything at all. The Yuzu wine was the only highlight of the night.

But I have to say the worst part of the night was the fact that after spending about $120, the servers asked us to leave to make room for more people when we still had our drinks in front of us. I have never heard of a restaurant doing this before. And we actually had reservations for our time slot and they still kicked us out. We had only been there for about an hour and some change.

I cannot imagine the audacity a restaurant would have to have to kick you out after spending $120 and still having drinks left to finish. I cannot recommend this place at all. We won’t...

Great vibe and food at this nexpected gem!Inspired Japanese standards from a chef owner who spent years in Manhattan. The mussels in teriyaki sake broth were fantastic as were the sushi and rolls. The chef also made a great recommendation when they didn’t have snapper. The staff are very attentive, thoughtful and the place was busy. We will definitely return next time we are in the area!

Is the best experience in Japanese food in the entire Hudson Valley area!!! We had the omakase version and my favorite dish was black code that was in maceration in miso for 4 days. Also the nigiris: Toro (fat bluefin tuna belly) was amazing and the eel is my favorite. Worth to travel to try this great authentic japanese feast!

Word of mouth brought me here and it was such a satisfying dining experience. The service amazed me at first (my needs were so promptly taken care of), then I took a bite of the food... Just wow. I couldn't say enough about this place. Too bad I found out about it a little too late. It's a must-visit if you are in the area.
