Occurred today 12/16/2024 approximately 12pm MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHARGED CORRECTLY. The owner is a thief. Buyer beware.
My family and I were enjoying lunch at the Mid Hudson Buffet in Kingston NY. We are regulars there. We always eat at the buffet and take away food charged by the pound to go. Upon paying, the owner (he said he’s been the owner for more than 20 years) decided to charge us $2 per piece of sushi instead of by the pound that is clearly on the price list. I have video evidence there are no signs at the sushi bar, at the register, neither in front or inside of the store stating so. I’m sure he has now rushed to place a sign to save his behind. I only realized this sudden price bump after I paid. I separately asked the waitresses the price of sushi to go and they all said it was $5.99 a pound, the same as all the food in the restaurant. The owner decided to only charge me and my family $2 per sushi piece. I told him no other customer, waitress or person in that restaurant knew of that price. He said “I change the rules everyday” this is absolutely disgusting! I can’t imagine how many people have gone to this restaurant and have been overcharged without knowing. Many elderly people go to this restaurant. He cannot change the prices on a whim based on when he feels like it. This is very dirty business practice and I refuse to stand by it.
Response to owner:
Absolutely incorrect. We were there at lunchtime. I have the receipt. It was not morning. There were no signs indicating extra charge anywhere in the restaurant. I witnessed other customers also purchasing sushi to go and they were not charged extra. This was reserved only for my party. I wonder…why…? I will leave that to each and her own.
The owner just posted “how did she expect us to serve eel in the morning?” I hope you reading are all paying attention this absurd answer of his below. It was LUNCHTIME. And you were also serving: Shrimp, fried Calamari, beef, all types of sushi, just to name a few dishes. We sat and literally ate eel and salmon sushi during that lunchtime visit. Why are you lying when you say you did not have eel sushi prepared. LIAR. As I told you directly on that day, I wish you the best in your business but what you did was wrong. I have no issue paying extra IF everyone is charged. We asked the owner when this supposed price change took place, his response was: “I decided just now. Rules change everyday here.” How selective. The customer has the right to know before dining or any new supposed price changes. It’s funny how not even ONE waitress was aware when I asked them. You lost us as loyal customers. I know you don’t care but this review is a warning to others. It is a shame you could not have apologized and just...
Read moreI feel that the place is now under new ownership at least that's the way it feels based on the buffet changes they took me crab legs off which is one of the best things there at the buffet and draws a lot of customers that continue to come back time after time because of that also the quality of the food has gone downhill totally it's either almost like they don't care that they built their clientele and feel that that's what we'll keep them going not to professionalism of keeping the food real now instead of the crab legs they have these little crabs which you could eat just one claw and there's less than a teaspoon of meet and each one you have to eat about 50 of them to get a serving they also took off the big beef spare ribs and in its place have chicken it's really depressing knowing that a place that you have been going to over the last 10 or 12 years I just got back from there tonight 8 16 2018 and the food totally sucked and when talking to management or owner new owner the only thing they could say was that crab leg cost too much to keep on the buffet which has been on the buffet like I said for the last 10 years so I said why don't you just raise the price people would be more than willing to pay $8 or more per person to keep the buffet the way it was they said no no...
Read moreWent down for dinner and the whole time we were made uncomfortable from the ladies that stands there and watch every bite you take and also seems to be gossiping about customers. I say these statements because they stare you down look in your face then whispers to their coworkers and then the natural human thing we do when that happens is turn to look at the person who's being talked about.. Now for the food OMG how my green beans taste like straight up water, and the food tasted old nothing had any taste whatsoever the fried foods were old tasting as well.. Let's just say we've visited this place a few times throughout the years only because sometimes you just dont feel like driving down towards the NYC all the time but trust me we will hit TSP or NYST when we eat out because the places around here dont take pride how they serve their customers who spening their hard earned money.. And in NYC, NJ, and or Long Island you'll get ypur money's worth and a nice dining experience My bad that was the worst we've every had and will never go back to this buffet again just being honest.. Can't believe how the workers stare so much it makes your whole experience...
