Had a short trip to Tucson. Due to the weather couldn't do a lot of the outdoor activities we had planned on. The hotel front desk clerk recommended The Gaslight theater. Amazing little theater that's been going strong for 44 years and is known for their parodies. We saw Ghost Blasters a parody of Ghostbusters. We got the last two seats to a sold out 6:00 p.m. Saturday show. Great view from the balcony. You can order food from the '50s diner next door. Great milkshakes. Not only did we get to see the Ghost Blasters show but it was followed up with a "FriendsOlio" basically a Cliff Notes version of the series Friends. Great value for the money. Very entertaining. Between the shows they read out the names of all the people having a birthday which was 2/3 of the audience and everyone celebrating an anniversary or another event. Veterans were also recognized. As each name was read the wait staff brought over an ice cream cone. By the time they were done the entire audience had ice cream! After the show we walked over to the diner on the side of the theater where they were having live music sung by a Marilyn Monroe character and Elvis DJ complete with a collection of classic 1950 cars and life-size cutouts to take a photo. Wish they had more of these types of family-friendly theaters especially where I live there is...
Read moreThis was my first time to the Theater. I was seated at Table B2, which is the second row, very close to the main stage, and just in front of the side stage. Great views of both stages; a little difficult to see the zipline.
The show was great. The servers were friendly, the band was great, the drummer had awesome solos, the show songs were great, the actors were very talented! Some funny improv and some fun choreography! Even a catchy song that the audience could song along to, and an intermission with singable songs.
My reasons for a four star review, instead of a five star review: There were a few times when the servers were blocking my view of the stage, and audience members were disruptive with their spoons clanking their glasses. Waiting outside in the humidity to be let in for the show wasn't very comfortable. The seating was very crowded and it was was difficult to move around the tables and chairs. The audience member seated in front of my table kept leaning back in their share, knocking into my table. It was confusing when the employee came out to talk about what doors to enter.
As I mentioned, I didn't know what to expect. I find that managing expectations results in a better experience, and I hope this review helps others know...
Read moreWe saw the play The Ghost Blasters. It started on time and had one short intermission.
It is a fairly small stage. On the right of the stage is an in -house band that is very good.
The play was funny (good lines). The effects were effective for a small production. The actors and costume were okay.
The actors had a very good relationship with the audience. Many of the adults we spoke to had attended this theater since they were children.
I'm basing this on the community plays we've attended over the years, which we saw a variety of stages, effects, costumes and actors.
My husband loved the fact that he could order a pitcher of beer and a pizza. He rated the pizza as very good. Due to health reasons I had to change my diet ...they didn't have any thing I could eat...all was fast food.
It was very very crowded. In my opinion they could have spaced the tables farther apart.
One last observation...is that the majority of the theater goers were not the typical type of theater goers, which was refreshing. The prices were reasonable and the plays that they had were popular and geared toward families and adults. We had...
