FLAVOR BOMB!!!! Lord have mercy. DefCiphur just indulged in one of the most flavorful, delicious and incredible meals ever. The 'FLAVOR BOMB' Benedict. The concoction of elements, components and flavors was otherworldly. Upon the very first bite, it was like a Flavor Bomb went off in my mouth - an explosion of multiple flavors that detonated on my taste buds. It was absolutely insane in the best way you could ever imagine. Grilled hominy cakes over a black bean sauce with poached eggs and Southwest pulled smoked short ribs (which later we discovered that the cooking process takes over 21 hours). Say what?! But wait, there's more. Throw in some elote! Can't stop there - how about some avocado hollandaise, salsa verde cruda, pico de gallo and cotija! Garnished with some crisp corn tortilla chips! FLAVOR BOMB!!!!!!!!!! On top of all this, we were looked after by an awesome human being named Anna. The big bonus was that we were blessed with the opportunity to be able to speak to the owner 'Gerard' who shared some inspirational stories about the early days and come up of Baja Cafe. Incredible stuff. This institution is a gem here in The Old Pueblo. If you haven't been here, please come visit and by all means, feel free to have a Flavor Bomb go BOOM in your mouth. My name is Ciphurphace and I approve this message.
*Update - this place was so damn good, I came back again the next day. I waited 40-45 minutes for a table and it was worth it! Today I had their special "BAT OUT OF HELL" and I didn't think anything could be more flavorful than a dish called the "FLAVOR BOMB" but I found myself smack dab in the middle of the most incredible Southwestern UMAMI flavor explosion and experience known to humankind. Southwestern grilled house made beef chorizo meatloaf and house made elote. Jalapeno bacon, poached eggs and this next level gravy!!!!!!! This is the best thing the Phaced God aka The Sauce Man has ever consumed in his entire life. Out of this world super incredible crazy fantastic comfort food to the...
Read moreReally enjoyed Baja Cafe on Broadway this morning. First of all, let’s start with the fact that it’s open at 6. I LOVE that, as an early riser. Don’t understand some breakfast restaurants opening at 8 or even 9, but this alone is great. Then, the service was warm and friendly and helpful! And of course the star of the show is the food, which is nothing short of outstanding. You’ve got a lot of breakfast choices and GOOD choices in Tucson, but this is an OUTSTANDING choice. My wife had the breakfast tacos, which were delicious. I tried some of it. I couldn’t get over the guacamole in these babies, just WOW, smooth, flavorful, a bit of spice (which I LIKED), creamy, and a delicious complement to the fluffy eggs, cheese and salsa. Nice warm soft corn tortillas you could actually taste (not just a vehicle to house the insides). Nice.
I had the combination eggs and just straight buttermilk pancake (they’ve got a LOT of pancake variations here, along with the overall great selection here, with a bit of an emphasis on great looking Benedicts (people seem to love the Coyote Benedict), which was both huge and absolutely delicious. Not easy to get excited about a regular buttermilk pancake - except here at Baja Cafe, where it is fantastic! A bit on the thick side, but not too heavy, it’s really fluffy and you can taste the buttermilk. And the butter is warm and the syrup is real maple and warm and gooey so they both go right on that big pancake with ease. Let’s not forget how delicious the hash browns are, too. It’s easy to go wrong there, I’ve had really greasy or salty hash browns but here at Baja Cafe they are just perfect. Use their awesome homemade hot sauce on the hash browns, it’s a real treat. I even liked the sausage patties a lot.
Just a great overall breakfast experience and so much more to try here. You should try it yourself, you...
Read moreI can't believe I didn't know about this place!!!!! Seriously....this whole place is just amazing. I walked in and was greeted immediately with a smile. I came in around 10am. They had a good amount of people but not too busy. Was seated right away. Then my server, Gordy!!! He is just amazing. Told him it was my first time and that I came for the eggs Benedicts(they are known for them and have so many different kinds). He shared with me his favorite ones and knew all the ingredients without looking at the menu!! You made sure that I had continually what I needed. Brought me some of their house. Made hot sauce. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict and also had their famous snickerdoodle pancake. Can I just say oh my gosh!! The Hollandaise sauce on the Benedict is so good and buttery and creamy. It's so delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly and you get a nice thick slice of ham on a deliciously crispy English muffin. Not to mention that I asked for extra crispy hash browns and I actually got extra crispy hash browns. And they have a house made hot sauce. I usually can't do hot sauces that have habanero in them because they're too hot but they've managed to perfect this to where it's just perfect and not too hot. You feel the heat, but it doesn't scald your mouth and take away from the flavors of the food. It just enhances the food. So I had to purchase one of those to bring home with me. Now let's talk about the snickerdoodle pancake..... I generally don't do sweets in the morning because it makes me not feel well, but this pancake was so good..... It has a nice snappy crispy crunch on the outside and nice fluffy pancake on the inside. It's sweet but not too sweet. The pancake flavor evens out the sweetness and it just balances out perfectly. This place is amazing! I will definitely be coming back here and telling...
