Great place for a romantic walk or easy walk with the family even the small children. You won't see the waterfall from the park so don't just go to the park and think that's it. Walk past the little building next to the park and you will go downhill and see the first waterfall. I don't know too many places where you get to see a waterfall at the beginning of the trail and also at the end. And what a payoff at the end, a glorious waterfall and you can feel the spray as you stand there gazing. Nice footbridges and well-maintained paths on either side of the river. There seems to be some renovation going on so one side of the river was closed to foot traffic during our visit in April 2019. You can walk to the bottom and up again in 30 minutes but do take your time to enjoy the nature and the historical markers! One of our favorite getaway spots in town. UPDATE: the improvements are great. Nice area to see the fish in the...

I love Tumwater Falls!!!! Such a lovely walk with a lot of beautiful greenery. If you're scared of heights it can be a bit unnerving at spots and this is definitely not a walk for littles who struggle to listen as it may not be safe. My kids have never really struggled here but we also do quite a bit of outdoor stuff so they know expectations. Clean bathrooms which is a bonus when you're doing anything like this. Quaint little park with two ships. Not really somewhere a kid can spend hours but the walk down the falls is totally worth it. My three year old and one year old were able to walk the falls walk fine and enjoyed taking pix.

Okay, edited to Add (September 27, 2022).. the salmon!!!! The locks, the viewing area, all of it. So lovely. Great place to bring kids for an educational opportunity. My kiddos loved it! I highly suggest it to everyone...

First of OK?, this will always be Tumwater Falls Park to me. I love it, have loved it since I was a kid. I've spent countless hours here. The same ships that I grew up with are still there, kids still live playing on them. I've even brought my grandson when he was little, and intend on taking my granddaughters, too. It provides great exercise walking around the loop, but for a fun experience with the kids, be sure to walk down the steps and out on the platform to get the spray from the waterfall in your face. Plenty of benches, decent restrooms, lots of beautiful grass yard for the kids to run. If it's fine to get a bite to eat, walk up the hill to the Falls Terrace restaurant. Excellent food with a nice view of the falls, although you may need reservations. This is a very well...

Update: We continue to adore our dogwalks here and pop over almost weekly. Right now, the big walkbridge and the platform below it are closed for upkeep, but there's still so much beauty to enjoy in the rest of the trail. We like connecting our walk by the Falls with a quick stroll to see the Canada geese down at Heritage park. So much natural beauty in the middle of town! Really appreciate the markers explaining historical significance of this waterway. The well-maintained trail may be slightly challenging for less sure-footed folks at the start because of loose gravel, but 95% of the path is smoothly worn and not steep. For someone new to the PNW from urban Gulf Coast, the falls were an absolute delight! Looking forward to bringing future visitors and to the continuing development of this local treasure.

Great, relatively short hike and viewing area around the falls and river. Coming from the perspective of a parent with a stroller, however, I’d advise to leave it in the car and carry your child if possible. The hills get steep and with loose gravel, make it very hard to push up. Also, if you don’t go down the east side path first and come up the west side path, you’ll find yourself pulling the stroller up a set of stairs (they are spaced jn a way that it’s easier to go down then pull up). The rest of the park and river are great, it’s spacious enough to play in grass or have a party at the picnic tables (there was a big baby shower going while we there). Parking is ample and there are different areas to park in, so keep driving through towards end if front section is full.
