The gym is clean and well-staffed. Climbs are easy to find, outlined and graded well, and really fun! My only complaint would be how I was treated by a particular staff member. It was my first time at this gym and, out of respect, before I’d even put my gear on, I asked the front desk if it would be ok to climb in a sports bra, for which I received approval for from two different employees. There were some kids’ classes happening in the next room over, but the main gym wasn’t full and only a few adults were climbing. When I took my first water break, a woman I hadn’t spoken to before walked up to me and told me I’d need to put my shirt on because there were kids around and moms. I’ve never been in a gym before where I was required to wear a shirt if there were kids and moms present. Kids are kids and they don’t sexualize breasts until they get older and are taught by adults that breasts are sexual. I don’t know what the moms’ alleged problems would’ve been, as they were all in an entirely separate room and I’m just a girl trying to climb on the other side of the building. I hadn’t gotten a single dirty look or comment from anyone else in the entire facility. The whole interaction just really killed my vibe and made me feel very self-conscious for the remainder of my time. My sports bra was in no way “showy” and was just solid black. My boyfriend, who was climbing with me, was wearing a sheer white tank, through which you could see his bare chest. Nothing was said to him. There was another person wearing a cropped tank top, only slightly longer than what I was wearing. Nothing was said to them. My boyfriend believes that, if my chest was smaller, nothing would’ve been said to me. We’ve climbed a lot of places before and he’s as surprised and disappointed as I am that this happened. After the interaction, I asked another employee if my sports bra was in any way inappropriate and I was assured it wasn’t, and that this particular staff member was just a real stickler about covering up. If you’re going to work in an athletic environment, you can’t police athletes on athletic wear when it’s completely appropriate and in good taste. Aside from that incident and that employee, my boyfriend and I felt very welcomed. The music was fun, the other climbers embodied the welcoming climbing community I’ve grown to love so much, and they have a little shop with really cool chalk bags and gear. I’m not sure if I’ll be coming back or not because the mobility of climbing in a sport bra is important to me and running into that one employee again and having the same thing happen again is not something I want to experience. I hate that it’s 2024 and we’re still complaining about women wearing sports bras in gyms- ESPECIALLY when the complainer is another...
Read moreI've been here about a year. Great place to bring the family or go by yourself. Their fitness classes also have a positive vibe. They have nice clean locker rooms with showers, looking like a 3-star hotel. I love their staff. They answer your questions about shoes, equipment, and technique.
I've been here long enough to understand some of the bad reviews. Indeed there are sometimes macho types there with foul mouths. Sometimes they need a gentle reminder that there are kids around or that they need to keep it down. There were also comments about their front staff. I am not writing to justify or diminish the hurt and bad experiences some patrons have had. I will say though that there are times that the front staff are overloaded and/or understaffed. I regularly see patrons using the auto-belays beyond the safety of their engineering, such as climbing routes not directly below the auto-belay. Or letting its cord get excessively twisted. Combine that with kids running under climbers unmonitored... you can feel the burnout.
There's been a few times I've wanted to climb in the evening hours only to find out they've closed an hour or half-hour early.
Summary: a great local business deserving 5 stars. Best to go when not busy (be aware of Saturday birthday parties). Temperature always good in there....
Read moreWe had our daughter's 9th birthday party here last weekend and it was the best one yet! We had about 30 people! We came for a kid birthday party last year and it was our first time there and it was so much fun! The host was so awesome you could tell she loved her job and it made us want to do a party there! The planning process was very easy and smooth since the first day I called with Kim DePew. Our situation was kind of confusing because so many people were coming and we could only pay for one kid per family but she made it look so easy and put detailed notes for us which ended up helping everyone else who worked there. Then when the day came Adrianna and Allysen were our two hostesses and they were extra prepared! They really made the day for everyone by being so awesome, patient and kind! They're beautiful young ladies but they lead and explain better than most adults! They really made the day more fun and less stressful for the parents and the kids and especially for my husband and I! Everything about the experience was better than I could have wished for, it's so rare to have an experience like this anymore and I'm so grateful! So much fun we highly highly...
