I've been to Depot Grill many times in the past and had okay experiences. However, after not going there for awhile me and my family chose to go there for lunch right after church. It was a terrible idea. If we would've known that we would end up not being able to even receive our order at the same time and if we would've known that everything we ordered was going to not come out according to our order, then we would have gladly gone to Denny's, Sherries, or Buffalo Cafe. The service at Depot Grill is terrible. The waitress couldn't remember anything we ordered and she in fact brought some other tables order to our table and we had to tell her that we did not order any of the meals that she brought us. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and I received part of my meal first and the second part about 5 minutes later. First, I received my eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Then, I later got my chicken fried steak that had hardly any gravy on it. The waitress even said that there was a poor amount of gravy on the chicken fried steak and that she was going to get me more. After about 5 minutes I received the cup of gravy. My sister ordered an omelette with bacon and vegetables. She did receive her omelette the same time I got my food, however, she got a ham omelette. My sister hates ham and did not want to say anything. Also, her meal came with toast. She wouldn't have gotten her toast if I didn't say anything. The waitress had no idea that she didn't even give her the complete meal. My wife ordered the Depot Burger. I cook hamburgers many times and have knowledge enough to know that a hamburger is one of the fastest and easiest thing to cook. However, she did not receive the food until everybody had finished eating. My wife ate off of everybody else's plates and got full off of that. After everybody had finished eating, I went and told the waitress that my wife was full and that she doesn't want the hamburger anymore. The waitress said that the cooks had just started cooking the hamburger. As we were about the leave the waitress told us that the hamburger was finished and brought it with a box and said that she would write it off the check. She then came back and told us that she couldn't write it off of the check and we had to pay for a hamburger that was in a takeout box that we didn't even want. Depot Grill is a terrible restaurant and I would recommend anybody go to either Sharies, Denny's, or Buffalo Cafe. Oh I forgot to mention, my dad and sister wanted coffee and were not given anything to drink until they had finished their meals. My sister said, "I'm really thirsty" and finally asked a waitress that happened to be near if she could have some water. Terrible, Terrible service. ...
Read moreCame through about a year ago and it was really good so when we came through again a few days ago we decided to come back. BIG mistake. Not sure what happened in the last year, but I would not recommend for dinner. Breakfast is probably fine as it is not that hard to mess up eggs and hashbrowns- but we were there for dinner. Not a fault of the server as she was doing her best- appeared she was the only one there on a Saturday. It was the kitchen who was at fault. Not sure I would trust them to microwave water.
Group of 7 and 5 had Sirloin with some form of potato. a couple of the steaks had to be sent back- not a big deal. A couple of other should have but we chose to just deal with it.
2 of us had a backed potato with the steak- You would think in Idaho you could get a decent potato. My wife's potato had black in the middle- It happens no big deal but it took nearly 30 minutes to get the potato (and her steak) back from kitchen. My potato was raw in the middle- Sent it back only to get another raw potato- again sent back and just got fries. but by then I had already eaten my steak (or rather choked it down because it was dry, tough and no flavor) - by then was past time to be back on the road as we had a 3 hour drive again of us.
Those who didn't get the steak, 1 had a Lemon chicken and pasta, which she said pasta was okay but the lemon chicken seemed like it as soaked in lemon oil- way to strong of lemon to be enjoyable. The other one was a Shrimp Scampi which he said was okay but had way too much garlic. He likes garlic but it was way to much. He literally scrapped about 1/4 cup of chopped garlic off to the side.
The server felt bad but all she could do was offer us coupons. Coupons? really? We live 3+ hours away- like we would ever be going back to there.
As I mentioned, A year ago we had eaten here and it was really good which is why we actually drove out of our way on our way home to return here. As we left my family suggested that next time we find a nice place to eat that has really good food, it is probably an 1-off and lets not go back a it may ruin the memory.
I am sure some of their menu items are fine as long as they are basic -anyone-can-cook type of foods. but anything else should not be ordered.
We usually like the home-style dinners, but honestly, for poorly cooked, poorly seasoned or not seasoned at all type of a meal, Mcdonalds would be considered 5 star compared to this place and about 1/3 the price.-- and we can't...
Read moreI am not the person to really complain even when the service sucks....but yesterday really drew the line. Where do I begin. I first noticed the service was crappy when the waitress came to our table asking if we had ordered something that was nothing near what anyone of us had ordered. Then, she asked me what I had ordered and when I told her, she looked so confused and disappeared into the back. When she finally brought the food to our table, she brought back an omelette with chunks of ham instead of bacon (my sister in law HATES the cubed ham so it was crappy when her order was messed up). She didn't get any toast and had to share my mother in laws toast. My husband's chicken fried steak had barely any gravy on it and was a little burnt on the bottom. The lady told us that she would bring us more gravy in a cup once it was ready. As for the burger that I ordered? Didn't even see it until everyone was done eating. She brought it to me with a to-go box. To top everything off, my sister had to ask for the waitress to bring her water and to get her toast (which was burnt). This experience makes me not want to go back to Depot for a long time. They need to train their waitresses and cooks better it's not ok to be waiting for your food and receive it when everyone else is done eating, in...
