Tybee Beach Vacation Rentals — Attraction in Tybee Island

We booked a rental for a vacation on Airbnb at the Bay View Villas room 104C. The photos on Airbnb were of a lovely little condo. We were very disappointed in our rental though. The good: This unit was close to the beach. Everything mostly worked (one fan had a missing pull). And we did have a roof over our head. The more minor inconveniences were that there is no shampoo, conditioner or hair dryer in the unit. To their credit, a hair dryer is listed as NOT provided on the description. But pretty much anywhere you go, there is a minimum of shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer. These are things that should be included in a beach rental. Also, no beach towels, and there is only one broken beach chair which still had dirty napkins and an empty diet coke in it. When I called, I was told we could go rent beach chairs and buy beach towels. We came from Colorado to enjoy a beach vacation. Buying beach towels and chairs is not what we expected to have to do. And packing them, along with a hair dryer, is just ridiculous to ask guests to do. These things should be provided in a beach rental, at a minimum. The master bed was full size, not queen size. Not only that but it was the loudest, squeakiest bed I've ever had the displeasure of having to sleep on. Bring ear plugs. The second bedroom was fine but it was next to a closet that had a weird smell and the outside hall lights shone into the bedroom keeping my kids awake. Pack an eye mask. The patio stunk and the chairs were covered in rust. Get your tetanus booster. And most disgustingly, a comforter in the closet was covered in blood. They did come and exchange that for us. Lastly, the owners of the unit upstairs were unbelievably loud. We called the after hours line at 930 pm the first night because kids were running around and a dog was barking all night. When the management came out and knocked on their door, they apparently hid because all noise stopped for a few minutes and the guy called my husband suggesting that he was incorrect in his accusations. As the guy was getting ready to leave, the dog started barking again and so they opened their door and the guy told them to keep the noise down. Which they did for the rest of that night. But at 6 am the next day, and until 11 pm that night and every other day that we were there, this was the norm. Kids stomping and jumping around, moving furniture, arguing, and a dog barking and whimpering from 6 am-11 pm. The manager informed us that although the information on the rental states no pets, that owners are allowed pets. So beautiful warned if anyone is looking into room 104C, that the people upstairs are owners and have several loud...

We had a horrible experience with our rental. I will preface my review with the manager did refund us $500 for our experience. The property company blamed the owners for most of the problems, saying the owners did not want to invest money back in. But if the owners are slumlords why manage their property? I do equally blame the owners for the poor experience. The pictures are misleading, the rental on 11 13th street was not quaint with charm, it was run down and dirty. The following are my complaints : Very dirty, pillow cases, bedding, dusty lamp shades, shower floors, the whole house in general needed a deep cleaning. The cleaning crew was late and did a rush job. (I know this because we had to wait for them to finish after check in) Kitchen sparsely stocked, only a few pots and pans and the house is advertised to host 16 people, we were not able to cook for our group of 14. *The manager brought us a new pot and pan set after we complained, and offered to reimburse the crock pot we bought. Beds were full size, not queen as advertised. Cigarette butts in the front yard and an animal trap in the back yard. Parking is advertised as big enough for 4 cars, in reality it is 2 cars and a 3rd if it is parked at a slant. Street parking is not free. Dishwasher was broke, manager told us owner knew about it and would just throw the soap in the bottom since the soap dispenser did not work. The garbage cans were completely full when we arrived. Ants all over the kitchen counters and large cockroaches in the kitchen and bathrooms, I understand I am in a semi tropical environment but other beach houses I have stayed in never had that problem. I am assuming a regular exterminator would take care of the problem. Our biggest complaint (along with the house being dirty) is the refrigerator and freezer did not work properly. The maintenance guy who came to fix it brought us a big cooler but later said nothing was wrong. All of our ice cream melted while in the freezer, we even bought more after he said it was fixed and we still had melted ice cream. The fridge part only kept the drink a little cooler than room temperature.

On a good note the house is in an amazing location, very close to the beach, and the wrap around porch...

We just left our beautiful vacation home yesterday, and I have to say, we were very impressed with this company. This was our first time using Tybee Beach Vacation Rentals in the 20+ years I have been vacationing to Tybee. We were not disappointed and they have made us decide to switch to them permanently from now on.

First, I really appreciated the amount of communication they had with me. I have used a different company in the past where they didn't contact you until day of check-in and only via email, and getting the code to get in would be sent 5 minutes before arrival time. But this company called me twice before our rental dates, sent numerous emails with information, and then called an hour earlier than check-in to let us know that our unit was ready and where we could pick up our info packet. This is amazing customer service.

Second, we stayed at Dolphin Watch 1 and this unit was beautiful. It was clean, well stocked with pots and pans and plates. It had so many towels and other useful things that normally I would have to bring with me like extra TP and paper towels and dish soap. I ended up not having to use my personal stash at all. So now I know that for next year, I dont have to pack so much! The beds were comfortable, the wrap around balcony was amazing, and of course the view was top notch.

Third, on our last day we had a visitor from maintenance who was there to switch out the furnace filters. I wish I had caught her name because she was the sweetest woman ever. She made me feel so comfortable having her there, when usually surprise visitors give me the heebie jeebies. We just love the friendly atmosphere on Tybee, and she was no exception.

This has been the best experience with a rental company on Tybee I have ever had. Can't wait to...
