For the dog park near the police station: I was really hoping the poor reviews were old. I'm here for Oct 2018 for an extended stay for work, not even for vacation and really need a place my dog can get some good exercise. So this "dog park" doesn't even look safe for dogs. The fencing is falling down in some areas, there are holes started by other dogs under the fence, plastic trash all over the ground. The surface is mulch with some grassy patches. The weeds have grown up along the fence. The water source is a broken water hose. I'm extremely disappointed.
About the beach situation, it is a $290 fine on first offense for a dog on the beach. I think it would be in the city's interest to either improve (dramatically) the dog park or allow dogs on the beach, at least for certain hours or a specified stretch of the beach. If dog waste is the issue they could require dogs to have some type of permit to be on the beach. I would willingly pay a fee to allow my dog on the beach. The fee money could go to a dog poop DNA registry (ex. PooPrints) and then anyone who did not clean up on the beach could be fined whether or not they were caught in the act.
I have heard there are dog friendly beaches on Hilton Head Island less than an hour north of here so we'll be...
Read moreMy kids enjoyed this park. It was a nice place to stop off and let them burn off their leftover energy. The park offers usage for multiple activities and so would attract kids of all ages. There is a small playground with varied play equipment. It has a baseball field. There is a path that leads over a small body of water. Sadly, people threw a lot of trash into the water and we were unsure of how safe it would be to go into the murky water to clean up the mess, so we just left it. There are some large beautiful trees beyond the path and some games painted onto concrete. The bathrooms were not the cleanest and my girls complained that the stalls do not have doors. One other thing I will mention is that we walked up on a dead bat. I am not sure why it died or how common that is, but as always be aware of where you and...
Read moreThis is a fantastic park. There is NO FREE PARKING. I say that so people aren't under the assumption to park without paying.
The playground is a shaded playground, the walking track is easy to use with limited mobility and those pushing a stroller.
I didn't take pictures of the playground as lots of children were on it. (Privacy concerns). But it's...
