Visiting the farmers market on Vashon Island was a delightful and varied experience. The market's variable offerings kept things exciting and enjoyable throughout my visit. From fresh fruits and vegetables sourced from local farms to an array of food options, it was a treat for the senses.
One of the highlights was the shaded setup, providing a cool and comfortable shopping environment even on sunny days. The convenience of easy parking made getting there a breeze, allowing me to focus on exploring the market's delightful offerings.
The artistic charm was truly enchanting! I couldn't resist taking home one of those adorable obsidian wind chimes that added a touch of whimsy to my garden. The presence of a talented teen selling paper mache masks was impressive, showcasing the market's support for budding artists and creativity.
Live music created a lively atmosphere, adding to the overall enjoyment of the experience. It perfectly complemented the market's vibrant and bustling ambiance.
The handcrafted soaps were another gem, and I couldn't resist treating myself to a few. The variety and quality of products truly reflected the passion and dedication of the artisans behind them.
I also appreciated the dog-friendly policy, allowing me to bring along my furry friend on a leash. It made my visit all the more special to explore the market while enjoying the company of my beloved pet.
Overall, the farmers market on Vashon Island is a must-visit for anyone seeking a charming and diverse shopping experience. Fresh produce, unique artistry, live entertainment, and the welcoming atmosphere make it a true gem on the island. I'll definitely be returning for more delightful...
Read moreLoved it! Excellent selection, even at the end of the season and on a rainy day. Vendors are friendly and offer a wide variety of produce, as well as meats, flowers, silver, baked goods, among other things. I suspect not all the vendors were in attendance today (17Sep2016), which makes it probably the best farmers' market I've ever been to, even WITHOUT everyone there!
My only ding (see next paragraph) was the lady I purchased chevre from had a small display of what looked like samples, but weren't. I don't know if WA state law prohibits offering samples, or if that is their farm policy, but if I just paid $13 for a small container of cheese, it would be kinda nice to be allowed a sample, right?
Ah! From the Farmers Market Handbook: "Finally, at the market, farmers and food vendors must follow the local health department rules regarding food handling, storing, and sampling. The specific regulations vary by county, so managers should be sure to know the rules. In general, hot and cold foods must be kept at appropriate temperatures. Vendors offering samples must have sneeze guards, proper hand wash facilities, gloves and serve samples so there is no bare hand contact. In addition, the local health department may require the farmers market and many vendors to obtain a permit to offer chef demos or other on-site food preparation."
OK....
Read moreI left over a dozen positive reviews and published them for the vendors. Though after leaving one negative review for another board member I was asked to resign from the Board of Directors for the Farmers' Market, which to me seemed like an infringement of my freedom of speech. Careful about this island community, I grew up here and love Vashon... Yet 'the grapevine' can be quite toxic, especially to those who haven't yet retired to live on and gentrify this...
