UPDATE: Came back to try the Wizards Lair and we were amazed by it. This room was completely different from The Attic as it was more high-tech and used less locks and keys. The room is well themed and the puzzles are very interactive. We enjoyed our entire time in the room and loved it so much that we booked We're All Mad Here right after. In comparison to each other I enjoyed Wizards Lair a lot more due to the complexity of the puzzle and the design of the room. We escaped both of the rooms with about 20+ minutes to spare. As far as difficulty goes none of the rooms there are super hard, there's just so much stuff that you have to do you don't realize that you're getting through it fast, which we enjoyed.

Customer service this time was a lot better! The GM even brought us into The Attic afterwards to show us how they updated it since my last review and it looks like all the issues we had last time have been patched and fixed!

The only suggestion that I have is to rephrase the story for the Wizards Lair, specifically the "black handle" part as it spoils a big part of the room.

Overall, I would still recommend this location to escape room beginners and moderate enthusiasts that are looking for a higher-tech room, specifically for the Wizards Lair room.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: On Valentines day my boyfriend and I decided to try Ultimate Escape room. We saw a Groupon for it and decided to book The Attic. Let me begin by saying; we did escape with 1.5 minutes left. We have collectively done ~20 rooms and escaped all of them. When we got there we were greeted by a young man who handed us the waivers and then introduced us to our group. In the room it was us 2 and then 4 other randoms who had never done an escape room before. We were given the story of the room, emergency exit doors, and then a few overall rules. Once we were locked in the room we began our hunt for clues. We were stuck on the first puzzle for a while because no one was working together. My boyfriend and I were working on the puzzle but the others were still going around the room trying to make something out of nothing. Once we got through the first puzzle we were fairly quick in figuring out the next one. However once we figured that one we were greeted with two more puzzles which stumped us for a while. We had actually solved both of them quickly but didn't realized we had solved them because there was to audible sound or movement in the room to notify us that we had figured it out. if you think you solved something closed the lock and try it again to make sure that the puzzle you are currently working on opened it, and not another puzzle. Once we got over that hurdle we were fairly quick in figuring out the rest. As far as red herrings go, there are a decent amount in this room. One locked item in the room needed about 3 keys to open it, but inside the item was not anything important in solving the room it was just story filler. Same goes with the "wall" as to not spoil it which we found near the end of the room, it was filled with unimportant filler information. If we had seen it earlier on in the room we probably would have been stuck on it for a while. One of the puzzles in the room we didn't even do. It would have given us a push to figuring out a puzzle which we had already done. But having not done it, we were stuck thinking that the items for it went to another puzzle. The woman giving us our hints was great and didn't give us to direct answers but instead gave us pushes towards figuring it out ourselves. You are given unlimited hints for the room. The young man who was our host was not the friendliest person ever but it wasn't unbearable. Could have been because it was late on Valentines and he had other places he wanted to be.

Overall I would give this place 4 out of 5 stars. Deducting a star for the red herrings, pointless puzzles, and customer service. That being said though, we will be back for their 3...

Update: 1/5/19: I was able to speak with the owner and was completely grateful to have that opportunity. She truly has the interest of her customers at heart, and that is the key to any company’s success. I definitely will continue to go to their escape room facilities in ventura and solvang. We tried solvang this weekend and the crew was amazing. I would highly recommend this adventure for the family. Thank you very much for reaching out to me. My family had a fantastic time in solvang!

Post from experience on 1/1/19 (3 stars) Iwas not going to post a review, but realized I needed to so other people would not have an almost sour experience. It was my family’s first time going to an escape room. We had to work a miracle to coordinate for all of us to go. It happened on New Years 2019. We walked in at 8pm and wanted to sign up for the next available room if possible. The person at the desk (the one from your video online with the silver hair) made me feel like it was an inconvenience and we were making him not go home early. I said I could just come back another time, he then acted like he did me a favor by adding us on. The place was not listed to close for a couple hours, so why he was rushing home, not sure. Anyways, the room experience was awesome, we did not escape. We had fun! When we exited we were greeted with the same uncheerful person, who said it was new years day and he just wanted to go home and sleep. We did not get a chance to do our group photo for our keepsake. Felt a little shorted on the experience, just unfortunate. I had been there myself with a different group in the past and the staff was awesome. If this had been my first experience I would have walked out and never come back or recommend it. It is not a cheap activity. I paid for a service and felt like an inconvenience. I am sure this is not the customer service that should be expected. It definitely needs to be corrected. Thank you...

We had five in our group and did the Mad Hatter room. I had been to the Escape Room in Hollywood and did not know what to expect here. Although it’s not as elaborate in decoration like Hollywood, we had the room to ourselves on a weekday (Wednesday before Thanksgiving). The room was not easy we did not escape...we had to ask for up to 5 clues and they in rhythms..only said once so pay close attention, pay close attention to everything they say even before you go into the room. The rest of my group this was their first time and they loved it even though we did not escape. They are competitive and our loss only made them want to go back. The team running the place is great, very nice and accommodating. Normally $39pp, but if you have a Ventura Axxess Card everyone in your party gets a $14pp savings so $25pp. That’s huge!! We are definitely going back. We continue to talk about it even days later...so go...

The Wizard's Lair was a blast! The Ultimate Escape Rooms was a great way to spend an afternoon with family while we were visiting from Colorado. The employee who checked in our group was friendly and embraced his role as the fairy, complete with a fun, non-cheesy fairy voice. The story was fun and challenging, while the clues we requested when we were stumped were just enough to help us through the puzzle without making it too easy. We escaped in a climactic finish, with 2 minutes left on the clock, and were greeted by yet another cheerful employee. We'll definitely return next time we're in town!

WOW, What a great Escape Room! This is probably the 6th or 7th escape room we've done and Murder in London the best one! Our group of 5 was immersed in what felt like old London. Every detail, from the dimly lit streets to the authentic props, plunges you into the era's eerie atmosphere. The game master's guidance was spot-on, striking a perfect balance between assistance and allowing us to explore and solve puzzles independently. If you are celebrating a birthday like we did, be sure to include the birthday add-on, it was a wonderful touch! A resounding "2 thumbs up" from all 5 in our party!
