Help to safe this beautiful place! Don't be negligent to damages! Verona Park is my favorite place to take a walk and enjoy the nature and wildlife there. I have always taken pride in my community and appreciated how well the county maintains the local parks and reservation areas. And it very painful to see how this beautiful park is suffering from cruel damages of its fields. This damage first started a year and a half ago (Spring/Summer 2020) and it continues happening now (see recent pictures) It was time when the Verona Police, NJ State Police and the Essex County Sherriff’s Office officers frequently drove through the grassy areas and fields, which cause significant damage to the environment. There was at least one instance where a police cruiser got stuck. When this occurs, the damage is even worse: instead of requesting help, they dig their wheels further into the dirt in an attempt to get out. There is a wide enough asphalted path for a police cruiser to drive on. In addition, park visitors let the police vehicles through when they drive around the park, so there should not be any need to go off-road. In all of the observed instances, there is no practical reason or necessity to drive over or through the field, aside from being ignorant and/or disrespectful toward our community. I care about our parks and the environment, and I believe resolving the root cause of this problem will not only help to preserve Verona Park, but also help the police repair its reputation in...
Read moreVerona Park is a beautiful, family-friendly spot nestled in Essex County. The lake, walking path, and peaceful landscaping make it ideal for a casual stroll, light jogging, or just sitting and enjoying nature. It’s a great place to recharge without leaving the area.
The playground is a big plus for families—clean, safe, and designed for different age groups. There’s plenty of seating nearby for parents to relax while keeping an eye on the kids. My little ones love the climbing structures and swings.
Restrooms are available, which is a major convenience, though they can be hit-or-miss depending on the day. Sometimes they’re clean and stocked, but other times they could definitely use more frequent maintenance.
Paddle boat rentals on the lake are a fun seasonal option, and there’s room for picnics and light recreational activities. The park is well-kept overall, though it gets crowded on weekends, and parking can be tricky when it’s busy.
Still, Verona Park remains a local gem—perfect for families, couples, or solo visitors. With a bit more attention to restroom upkeep and weekend crowding, it would easily be a five-star...
Read moreVerona Park is a great place to spend the day. Plenty of opportunity for exercise and leisure activity with boating, walking, fitness trail, tennis, picnicking, and a large, super fun playground for the kiddos. Even though the playground is quite expansive, it is always very crowded, even on a cool (but not cold) February day. The tennis courts are well maintained and the paved path around the lake for walking is mostly flat with only a few stairs when crossing bridges. Parking is difficult with very few spots within the park, often leaving visitors to park along the outside perimeter of the park. Off season, the boathouse is closed so other than a few porta-potty’s, there are no bathrooms. There is also no food for sale off season. One of the nicest things about this park is the ample park bench seating situated throughout the park, particularly along the walking path, giving those who need a rest the...
