Really some interesting items to look at. In the 3 dimensional battlefield display it would help if they included the stop numbers that the drive through uses but still an amazing piece of work. The ships and models seem to be all over the place. Most are Civil War items but then you get to second world war aircraft and ships that are just randomly thrown in. Kind of confusing. The upstairs seem to not be finished and has a lot of empty space. There is a room with ship models in it that they refer you yo but then that door is locked and you can't even read the signs on a lot of the ships from the one viewpoint you can look through from the glass door. There is also a window in the main room looking in on these ships but I was not able to read the info on these signs from there either ad there is shelves of merchandise blocking a lot of that place. It is worth it to look them over but don't expect a clear picture of the history they have these items...
Read moreThis was an unexpected find. We just stopped in to use their restroom and ended up touring the two-story museum. Gorgeous old building that used to be the train depot years ago. Entrance fee was only $5 each. First off is the gift shop, then the hostess takes you in to visit the massive train room, where she started a number of the model trains. I counted at least 9 individual layouts with multiple trains on each, with all the gauges represented. Next was a diorama of the Vicksburg battlefield, which I found very insightful because the battlefield itself, is all wooded and no open spaces. Upstairs is an enormous display of model ships of all kinds and eras. Sternwheelers to sailing vessels to battleships to aircraft carriers. Amazing work put into these. They also had a small room for Coca-Cola memorabilia. Really nice visit for a...
Read moreThe excellent diorama of the Battle for Vicksburg with a good civil war history documentary gives you a real sense of the military situation and the scope of the fight. It may help if you come here to get a sense of the battleground before you go on the Vicksburg Battleground National Park Tour.
This is a great model-filled museum, mostly with ships models and model trains. It brought back memories of the hours spent building these replicas. There is a detailed study of the ironclads -- have not found these anywhere else.
All this in a beautiful restored train station right on the Mississippi River levee. Support these volunteers who have done this all on their own! What a...
