Would NOT recommend this place at all for any type of wedding photo shoots or anything of that sort. We had called previously inquiring about taking wedding party photos weeks before the wedding, and was told to bring $10 and the place would close at 4 so we had until then to finish photos. However, once we arrived and began taking wedding photos, the workers were very disrespectful and unprofessional and kicked us off the property. Also, it was 3:30 and the place was supposed to close at 4, but they decided to kick us out and lock the gates. The workers stated that we had no appointment to take photos, however when we inquired about taking photos there was no discussion of an appointment being necessary.

Lastly, although they kicked us off the property and locked us out, they still made us pay $10 even though we were only able to take 2 photos before having to leave.

Overall, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Find somewhere with better management and...

I was so excited to see this museum because the exterior of the courthouse is STUNNING and I knew it was such a historic place. I was quickly disappointed by all the junk and confusing layout of the exhibits. Then I became quite angry at the racist interpretations of the artifacts. It’s such a shame because this museum has so much potential to become great. If you take away 90% of the “artifacts” and kept the true gems (ex: original newspapers printed on wallpaper during the siege, a teddy bear gifted from Teddy Roosevelt, etc.), and actually labeled the items with factual information, you’ve got a 5-star museum on your hands. I just can’t get over the exhibit on how “happy” and “proud” Black Confederate soldiers were to “defend” their homes, as if they had a choice… or the gross shrine to Jefferson Davis. Incredibly problematic to...

Great place to visit for confederate memoribilia and definitely learnt a lot. I see a lot of people saying staff were friendly but i dont think we got the same treatment because we were brown and staff probably didnt think we would like the stuff we saw. Well they were wrong. It was super interesting. Dont be scared of guiding us non white folks through your museum homies! I didnt agree with the whole Jefferson Davies slaves and him were bestest buddies routine (you give it a go) but it would have been the propaganda at the time and thats why i think this museum is so interesting. I could not help but think what if the confederates won the war. Would there be a union museum somewhere in New York State? All the best everyone and be kind always no...

Was a nice museum with a wide variety of exhibits (but most of it civil war era stuff). Nice gift shop, though not sure how I feel that they are selling antiques/real historical artifacts in it. I know they have to help support and fund the museum, but as a historian it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. As there was no information to say how they came into possession of each item (bought, donated, etc.) and if they were donated if the donors were ok with them being put up for sale (I know many museums can get over run with items and multiple duplicates, and have no where to go with them). Plus many of the artifacts (civil war bullets, cannon balls, etc.) were found in the local area, so the question is whether or not they should really leave the area.

This was not our first visit, but it's been several years since we were last here. There were many new additions, and a little rearranging since our previous trip. So many things to see. I'm grateful for those who preserve history like this. The museum is a former court house, two story (handicap lift available to get you upstairs if needed), and slap full of amazing, well organized and maintained pieces of history. Entry fee is reasonable, I believe we paid $10/person, but it's less for seniors and children. Honestly, we will probably stop in anytime we visit Vicksburg, that's how much we enjoy this place. I definitely recommend adding this to your list of places to visit if you're in town, or passing through.

There are two dogs on the property who were harassing and chasing my dog (my dog was walking on leash on sidewalk). The two dogs even went underneath the fence to continue to chase us across the street!! with their hackles raised. Unacceptable for a public place to have out of control dogs like this and I’m an animal lover saying this. It was scary Edit: gate rather than fence would be the correct word. The gate that was closed (but had room underneath for the dogs to go through). The gate is closing off access to the stairs. I even took a picture of it before the dogs showed up because I thought it was pretty
