Not as breathtaking as expected for something that was hyped up so much at the beginning, and it definitely looks much bigger from the outside (which I do like the contemporary design and landscaping). I came to try to get some homework and studying done, but that was not an easy thing to do without my earbuds due to the children being so loud as they mindlessly played on the computers together. I thought it was much better in the previous library how the kids section was off in the corner and a bit more separate from everything else, which meant everywhere else in the library was extremely QUIET. The coffee shop also made things a bit noisy.
It's also not too encouraging to see the children's section with very few toys (from what I could tell, admittedly didn't pay extremely close attention) and no books in the vicinity. Just computer games and little else aren't good for a child's development. The old library had countless children's books and non-electronic activities in the dedicated children's section, and it doesn't look like many of them were brought over. Not that that part affects me, but just an observation.
I'm still going to come back periodically to attempt to study again before I jump to conclusions about this library's potential as a good research/ study site, but I was not all too impressed upon my...
Read moreThis new library is a multi-million dollar joke. Sure, inside the building is wonderful - even if the outside doesn't fit the Vinton landscape at all. I've visited in the morning, afternoon and the evening both on weekends and weekdays. Every time I go it is an awful experience. I've given this place every chance and I officially give up. Think you're going to go there and peacefully enjoy a good book? Maybe do some studying? Think again. This is the loudest library you will ever have the displeasure of visiting. Blood-curdling screams from children, yelling teenagers that think it's funny to exit via the emergency exits and set off the alarms, adults who should know better speaking so loudly on their phones that everyone can hear them - the list of annoyances goes on and on. I expect a moderate noise level in a public place, but go to the Vinton library and you'll think you're in the mall on a friday night....
Read moreThe lirbary itself is great. Tons of good books, and the children's area is fit for all ages. Staff are normally friendly and helpful. The library has a great layout as well. Lots of areas for sitting, studying, or working. We are very happy visiting here!
My only complaint, however, is the the upstairs cafe. Prices were high and the food was not worth it at all. I was extremely disappointed that the personal pan pizzas are tiny (not even enough for my toddler), and the hot dogs came on stale buns that were falling apart. I had high hopes for it, so this was definitely...
